Nicole Keefe was born in 1984, in London England. Her youth was spent in Canary Wharf, living comfortably middle-class. With her parents involved in the technology industry, she spent time around electronics and was motivated to follow in their footsteps.

At an early age, Nicole showed an aptitude for Robotics, building rudimentary automatons during her adolescence. She graduated a year early from High School with excellent grades before applying for a scholarship to Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was accepted and moved out of her home at seventeen (2001).

During her tenure at MIT, she developed an intimate relationship with a fellow student called Cameron Igor. This relationship, however, was a facade. Two years (2003) into her studies, Nicole was lured, kidnapped, and imprisoned by her partner, who was revealed to have ties to The Pandora Initiative (LINK - CONTENT: EVOHUMAN ORGANIZATIONS – THE PANDORA INITIATIVE). Three months into her captivity, she underwent an Awakening and developed powers that she claims to have hidden. Six months later, Nicole had managed to scavenge enough resources to build her first creations, allowing her to escape into ECU protective custody.

Since receiving ECU protection, Nicole has managed to finish her education at MIT, while also making frequent visits to ECU-approved therapists. Nicole has claimed to have undergone extensive physical, mental, and sexual abuse during her captivity.

Since joining the ECU officially in 2006, Doctor Nicole Keefe has supplied crucial equipment to ECU Personnel. Her specialty in defensive nanotechnology has allowed for greater protection of both active soldiers and active heroes. Her contributions have saved thousands of lives and this is expected to increase as she continues to develop her Mechatech with ECU support.

• Nicole specializes in the creation of Nanomachines for defensive purposes. Given the complexity of her technology, the ECU has hosted courses and seminars run by Doctor Keefe to help those who wish to aid in her development.
  
  

• Nicole is capable of utilizing her nanomachines to create highly customizable armor. As of April 2008, there are plans to have some of her simpler designs mass-produced. More advanced and specialized armor is reserved for active ECU Evohumans.
  
  

• Currently, Nicole’s nanomachines are incapable of self-replication – although she claims she could implement this feature. Mentalist feedback has highly advised against that course of action.
  
  

• The nanomachines are incapable of creating, developing, or maintaining an AI hivemind. Each cluster can only operate under the parameters they were designed for. They cannot act independently.

“An unfortunate history, but I am noticing a pattern. These ‘Awakenings’ have a history of developing during times when a person is experiencing intense emotions. Mostly stress, trauma, and grief, but intense euphoria has also been known to cause an awakening.”

“Negative emotions tend to be a strong catalyst, yes. Grief played a large part in my awakening.”

“Hmm. The ECU would have the world believe that this phenomenon began in the 1950s. Curious, when there are earlier documented accounts. Although, the frequency of those Awakenings was much lower and it seems their results were more… chaotic than what we experience now.”

“You sound like you have a theory.”

“I simply seek to understand. I do not put any stock in the ramblings of The Pandora Initiative, believing all of this to be the work of a deity. The appearance of the second moon is simply a convenient sign – something the ignorant masses can point to as divine significance. My hypothesis; it is a misdirection.”

“Oh?”

“More conjecture on my account. I apologize, I can explain what I believe, but I have no means of proving my theories. Evidence is difficult to come by, when the entire planet remains ignorant.”

“Humor me.”

“Consider for a moment that you are a scientist, a drug. You would start with a control group and then continue to monitor each subject, would you not? How the drug affects them, whether their environment affects their response and so forth. But you wouldn’t have a single group, you’d have multiple and if there are any untenable side effects you would go back to the drawing board and try again.”

“You believe there is a group of people behind this, an organization spanning back to the 1800s? Ha… they would be a dedicated group, certainly.”

“Perhaps. However, once you are done with the first stage, it would only make sense to expand the scope of the experiment.”

“Like, say, from a few people throughout history to the whole planet? Hmph.”

“You find it amusing?”

“I did ask you to humor me.”
