FYI, Jason gets genuinely offended by the MV (and I got his approval in the end to post the uncut on Patreon), so you can watch if you're curious and/or down to discuss the points he brought up but just giving y'all a heads up bc I myself was a bit taken back about his strong feelings!

I just listened to Jason’s opinion and honestly I completely agree. I think a lot of kpop - especially recently - has really really leaned into the whole materialistic and “you want to live my life” concept lately and it’s kinda rubbing me the wrong way as well. I also felt like the direction of the music video was slightly disjointed from the concept of the song and was essentially a parade of showing their high-class designer lifestyle, which like Jason said basically takes away from the entire concept all around 😭 and granted this isn’t a thing only IVE have done but it’s good to point it out, especially with a group as well-known as IVE. It’s just an unfortunate outcome of the way kpop capitalizes on insecurity and sells the idea of these idols who live “perfect” lives (even tho we all know that’s not true). Kpop companies know it’ll make them a lot of $$ so it’s a solid formula even if the heart of the message is icky. The song itself is really good though in my opinion!

He's not wrong but I'd definitely keep a lot of what he said on patreon (especially the eating disorder/drug comments unless you want Starship coming after you guys no matter how true it could be). On the other hand, it's not all that groundbreaking what he said......even kpop as a whole and former kpop CEOs in the past have openly admitted that they are in the world of SELLING fantasy and perfection (selling being the operative word) and they have strict guidelines for it. I'm sort of reminded of an old reaction you guys did of Twice (I think it was Ooh Aah or Cheer Up) where a few of your reactors had some issues with the lyrics. The sad truth is, it's not like these girls have a choice......they do what they're told, sing what they're given, maintain a certain weight bc they're told to etc. But i get it......sometimes you just get overwhelmed with the onslaught of stuff that is staring you in the face and you guys react to A LOT of kpop and this video was a bit on the nose. All I'll say is the song itself is pretty catchy and goes all the way up to G which is DAMN high (even for a kpop gg).

i agree completely w jason, i think a mv/song that did it much better (the theme of falling and rising, confidence, etc) is bet on me by itzy bc theres no fantasy luxury life, and the lyrics (to me) are more meaningful
