The first time i heard it i was like ok... is this it? However when i did a second listening much more relaxed and using my fancy headphones i fell in love with it, to me its seems like they want to showcase their vocal members and take advantage of their timbres (Miyeon, Yuqi and Minnie) and ranges (im pretty sure Yuqi is not a soprano). As a Miyeon stan i definitely like the direction

thank you for uploading sean's reactions to gidle's most recent cb! i was initially really surprised a hwaa reaction didn't make it to the main channel and kept checking back for weeks wondering if i missed it. finally got the idea to check on patreon for it so i subbed just to see the gidle uploads. :) after watching the reactions, i get why these were tagged as extra content on patreon than uploaded to the main channel. the 'i burn' album really does place more emphasis on vocals/storytelling so there was less complexity to dig into about the instrumentals. when i first listened to hann and hwaa, they sounded more like they were written for a historical musical than the kpop genre. it was something new and took a few listens before i really got into them. (RE: abrupt endings - i get the sense that this is soyeon's figurative mic drop, and i can totally see her smirk and intense eyes at the end of each experimental song she does, daring you to think differently and challenge what most people expect out of kpop girl groups. she's done it most notably in senorita, oh my god, and now hwaa. i could probably write essays on the symbolism packed into those songs alone) in my opinion, hann and hwaa are elegant in their simplicity but not without strong direction. they were very focused in conveying the emotions they wanted to convey (loss, regret, sorrow, defiance) in a cinematic way that i've come to associate with soyeon. the rest of the album, she kinda takes a backseat to let her members shine. like the metaphor of then sitting in the bird's nest in hwaa, i burn is the next step in minnie and yuqi producing their own music after breaking out of their shells. i hope that as they grow, they can show us more complex elements in their composition and production. i think it'll be a fun journey to watch how they develop their sound. all in all, i've barely stopped listening to i burn since it came out so...can't wait to see what they do next!
