Content

In this episode, we shadow a retail boosting squad and graffiti crew called "Finesse Em' All" (FEA) and reunite with some old friends on a Tenderloin trap corner called the 'Woo Block' :)

In the next episode, we'll actually shadow 'Jack the Bipper' on a real boosting mission.

We're trying to go above and beyond to give all of our loyal supporters extended content WAY in advance. In fact, these videos may live behind the paywall forever. I'm not sure if YouTube will ever allow this content, based upon what I know about their community guidelines.

FYI - the delay was because I added a segment about the history of Fentanyl, and Big Pharma's role in all this.

I'd also really like to know which parts of this series you enjoyed, what could be cut, or what you feel like I left out. All of this will be crucial in editing our final product. So please let me know!

Enjoy.

Ben

These are so good.

Kahvi Patel

The Fentanyl and drug cartel angle is super valuable! Definitely adds to the piece

Anonymous

The added context helped a ton. Can't wait to see the rest of this series. And hopefully the smuggling doc in the future.

Anonymous

That smuggling documentary is going to fascinating!

phreq

sick now my friday is saved :D

Moriah

The edit turned out great 🤌 easily my favorite video since Channel 5 returned. Stoked for the rest of the series and for Latin America content

channel5

Hell ya thank you for the feedback on previous cuts. I also want to add a bit about the history of the Tenderloin (where this is filmed) so people understand that we’re only filming in a small radius. A ton of other parts of the city, like North Beach and Noe Valley, have adequate policing and no tents

Nacho

Real news, real journalism. Thank you.

Anonymous

Best one yet. Compelling stories and honestly doing some of the best journalism out there rn. Can’t wait to see Central American episode that’s brave!!

Moriah

😊 A little bit of history about the tenderloin would definitely add to the series. I would be interested in knowing what the families of the Hondurans did before coming to San Francisco. I wonder how much climate change/loss of drug farms play a part in becoming mules etc.

Nolan Wilder

Can’t wait for the boarder crossing episode. All of this is great. Thank you

Anonymous

WayMo probably pays homies to tag public buses

Suitable Alias

nothing to cut here. Always down for the longform, keep it coming!

Anonymous

i wish i could give better feedback, the 15 minutes flew by i'm into it. i think the little segment offshoots add much needed context, keep adding stuff like that as needed- you're able to do it channel 5's way so it works. dont worry about length. makes me glad i'm in seattle even living on 4th and Jackson during the pandemic wasn't like this footage. ps you missed a couple frames of eyeball still.

Anonymous

great series so far, it really captures what is going on in sf. I think people not from the bay only see the viral clips from the first episode. Adding the context of why a lot of this is happening like how fentanyl is being sold, big tech, gentrification, etc helps people understand. could be good to showcase how neighborhoods like nob hill which is like 5 blocks from the tenderloin, have no homeless people. fuck big tech, big Pharma and the NIMBYs in the bay who complain about the homeless but never do shit to help. also shout out mario0o0o0o

Anonymous

you the only respectable news coverage of what’s really goin on in the city. shouts out andrew and the crew!

Anonymous

I can’t wait for the rest of this

MeowMeowMFer

FEA: Dumbest thugs ever. Enjoy prison.

djtaylormichael

The history segment brought it all together.

Anonymous

killer content, keep dem ears on tha ground

Chris

I live in SF, and have for 12 years. I would be really interested in how the non-profits play a role in the bureaucracy and corruption of City Hall. Multiple non-profits claiming to work on the problems of homelessness, housing, drugs, etc. have been caught embezzling money from the City. Also how the police Union - which has a long history going back to the 1920s - continues to play out in the lack of enforcement. Now with APEC in town they totally cleaned up / shuffled downtown. Ironic as Xi Jingpeng and Biden are gonna be 100 ft from that block.

Chris

Also I think it's totally fucked to prey on the tourists. All the bippers dump luggage in my neighborhood, and we're constantly finding passports, medicine, etc. from folks from all over the world. We basically have a group here that tries to unite the belongings back with the owners.

A bunch of crime tourists, bring back the three strikes law

Ejazzle

Dude there could never be too long of a video of all this. Wouldn't mind and extended cut or a longer version of some other interviews from around the bay area.

Anonymous

I want to echo the positive comments from other viewers. What draws me to the Channel 5 is that their previous interviewees are not forgotten and they actually add to the newer content; I like seeing that level of respect. I would like to learn more about is how the local government lost their grasp on this situation. So far you and your team covered the social and economic side of these challenges (which were great by the way). I curious how the govt components play in. I am looking forward to next videos!

Anonymous

i know youve reuploaded this again, but there are still single frames where i can put together a profile of some of the vigilante faces. i come from a background where dry snitching isnt okay. id be wiling to help edit your footage so this doesnt happen again. its not okay as a professional journalist to let these things slip. these are peoples lives, and youre aware, people dont like their choices.

Anonymous

besides that, all the content youve produced over the years from AGNB to C5, keep on rockin. salute

Mallory

Dr. Carl Hart's input on this would be interesting- curious to hear if you all got in contact with him

Anonymous

i'd like to see interviews from within harm reduction on actual efficacy on helping addiction or housing individuals, or challenges with people that dont want to change-- more stuff on government/nonprofit agencies and what's going on behind the scenes there

I’m legit blown away by this episode in particular. Hats off Andrew & team

SanestFlexican

Great reporting channel 5 crew

MeowMeowMFer

I was an SF resident for 30 years. What I’m not seeing here is the attitudes of typical SF residents who justify living in a shithole. You can’t point out the obvious without being called hateful or mean by the virtue police. You haven’t mentioned Chesa Boudin, nor the city’s police budget cuts in 2020. SF can’t solve its problems without recognizing them in the first place. It will be a long descent down with huge loss of tourism, business, and tax revenue before people finally get sick of it.

Anonymous

I love the segments that break away to add to a bigger narrative. Like the history of fent. Gas

Anonymous

enjoyed the history.. helps connect the dots & bring the story full circle!! lmk if u need beats for upcoming videos #bootyshakinhouse

THANKS DREW DREW ANDREW for another awsome piece....your work is better than Gozo journalism of hunter THompson...u r the new Hunter THompson.....work work work man ....put this in cops face so they take out these evil evil Cartels...thanks Andrew dont stop The Revolution

im picky because this shit could be used in a future tense with ai learning, build up a model of all the caps together, but i digress.. :41 / :42 sidehead 1:06 AWFUL blur 1:14 1:22/:23 1:46 2:08 2:12 6:46 hat logo 6:52 9:30 10:46 full eyeball 10:58 11:13 clear shot of arm tattoos i can tell green guys face mostly if i put all this together, beard hat logo face build.. this may not be the one that gets folks caught up but i dont want my favorite journalist to be anyones downfall

the edit felt rushed, and the re edit. hit me up on ig if you want some help in any way, even just peer review before you post misplaced_puzzlepiece

always great to see the Hoff twins winning. great video as always gang

noah ferguson

Well done Channel 5. Giving us the real news like no one else.

Anonymous

Gotta be careful of that heRON on the streets. Great segment, Andrew.

Stay safe man

Sara

SF Chronicle did some amazing investigating journalism on this Honduras fent trade. It was nice to see Andrew bing the story to more people and in video.. so curiously to see what he did in Central America. Yike Andrew.. you are brave!

Anonymous

I’m amazed by the quality of this, I can’t wait to see where it goes

Andrew J

God work

Anonymous

Great content. Didn't need to censor the kids in Honduras?

channel5

Those aren’t the actual migrants we interviewed, it’ll make way more sense when we drop the vid

Dope episode way to show bay culture and history explained

Em and Jo Talk

I'm pretty sure this became a street therapy session when he talked about joining a union. Everyone needs therapy but this is also the result of extreme inequality in the housing and job market. It's a shame but everyone needs to see it as well, thank you again Andrew.

polymorphic shade

Great stuff here. Very happy I signed up.

Oden

would be cool to see these docs preserved in physical form somehow. maybe sell usb drives or dvds. I'd buy.

Anonymous

Whatever those twins said… wow, right on from an amazing angle. 14:00

Desmond Hawkins

He said "could get us into a lot of trouble", but I don't think he meant with the law. More likely get in trouble with the people who run this scheme or benefit from it, and don't need it to be exposed to a wide audience. If they show where the recruitment happens, the recruiters can be tracked down, and it's the same at every level of the operation. In some places it might also be a problem for the people that Channel 5 worked with: if they show this system working with impunity, both cartel members worried about security and corrupt cops made to look bad might punish those involved locally.

Anonymous

fantastic content. Very excited for part 3

Anonymous

Amazing series Andrew, just subbed. Can't wait for part 3&4

Anonymous

You need to make this public fr, I live in the city and there’s a lot going on rn

Anonymous

as soon as i heard that piano i knew

William Stone

So fuckin good man. “within 15 minutes I identified the culprits” lmao. I wish I was cool enough to have a haircut like the twins

William Stone

Love the part of the interview with the booster in front of the kids and him explaining what they’re doing and the cycle. Starts off innocent.

trythinking

total trash people. fuck these gun toting hip ganster wanna-bes.

Anonymous

All of this is gold my dude. Don't cut a thing.

803cart

yeah fr dont cut anything from these. people need to see just how wild this really is

Anonymous

Oh shit tha TWINS?

Skyler

I'm fascinated by that segment u did on the history of fentanyl and gangs. ik u guys gotta be careful w that footage but that sounds like some real incredible journalism

Jeremy

So interesting! Are there any other cities experiencing this similar level of crime? I can’t wrap my head around how SF comes out of this. Is it just the new normal or will things change with sweeping legislation? So many questions

Jeremy

Also can’t wait for the South America footage! You guys continue to put out the best content in media

Evan

Great work

Anonymous

Don't cut any of it. If anything, add more. Surprised to see the Hoff twins at the end.

Matthew Goldberg

Awesome all the way through. Wouldn't mind some footage from the Dead show in the mix!

Quint from Jaws

not the Hoff twins. this and part 1 together are worthy of a theatrical release this shit is so facinating and well put together.

Richard Springfield

One of the greatest moments in all of your video work is the guy who just hit the whipit having his mind blown out of his skull by you walking up.

Anonymous

FEA should rebrand to POS, "parasites of society". Great watch though, as always.

Anonymous

What goin on in the city is like The show snowfall but instead of crack its fetty. Thats why they not doing shit to stop the problem. Y’all know who runs the show👁️

Anonymous

The interviews with people are of course the lifeblood of your work, but your narration montage summaries have gotten incredible as well. Loving the blend of the two styles.

Anonymous

When’s part 3 dropping???🤤 I live in the Bay and no one’s covering this the way you guys are. I don’t usually comment on the internet , but I gotta say Andrew , you and the channel 5 team are doing GOAT level work rn for journalism and keeping us young folks tuned in. Not on some conspiracy shit, but I feel like the effort to promote media literacy was threatening to legacy outlets and the powerful people they serve. “Cancellation” (as tired as that convo is) always seems to come along when someone outside the frame is doing something actually informative or beneficial for the public. So fwiw, just wanted to say, aside from the validity of the allegations or the personal work you’ve done, I’m glad you not only returned, but came back even more hungry, dropping gems like this SF series and keeping us entertained with pieces like Toronto mans. Genius shit. Much love and channel 5 forever ✌️

Anonymous

This video is insane amazing job. I heard a little about the South America footage and everything that happened coming back through a mutual friend and I can’t wait to see it man. Keep up the great work

NORCAL 4 LIFE

Anonymous

its wild to see the impact COVID lock down had in SF, i think you should interview the TECH BROS that stared this mess in the first place (we didn't really get to hear their side), and see how they feel... in hindsight, they probably don't know whats going on in the streets because they just create the technology from the comfort of their own homes. its difficult to get a hold of someone in tech because they sign nda's and don't come out of the house.. its a tough one! hope this helps!

Anonymous

Channel 5 is the best!!! Thank you for these vids of my home town. Gotta say that the guys robbing all the stores and pistol-whipping and car-jacking innocent people are the worst!! Eff those dudes! They literally don't care about anyone or anything. The worst! Put those guys away for a long time please! They have scary bad karma coming their way!

Anonymous

Hoff Twins at the end too funny

Anonymous

the hoff twins cameo my fuckin lord., incredible. sewing together a cohesive universe of alternative subculture in a digestible, authentic, and comedic way, without being excessively derogatory or exploitative..... truly fascinating and prescient journalism

Anonymous

Agreed with everything you said man !! Bay Area native myself as well 🙌🏼

Flawda Man

Everything about this is awesome great coverage no notes

Flawda Man

I wanna know if he even knew the hoff twins were there. thats crazy

Anonymous

Part 3??

Ben

Enjoying every second of these. I really appreciate the long form content. IMO between the more more intense back and forth cuts of news, you could give even more space to people talking about their experience. In the first video I really appreciated the interview with the guy who doesn't want to die before his mom. I also thought it was amazing to hear the booster guy go from bragging about the boosting life to thinking about his future. Best part was hearing the Hoff twin tune before they even appeared! Keep up the awesome work!

It’s one thing to steal from corporations and it’s another thing to steal and fucking hurt other people. Fuck these type of clowns.

Joshua Duarte

Man, I just subbed tonight - I've got to say, these San Fran videos are some of the best pieces of journalism I've seen in a very long time. You clearly did your research and have a deep understanding of the root issues here. I'm so excited to continue to support this channel. These will be some of the most important news clips of our time someday.

Sam Nordstrom

One thing I think is missing, which you may get to, is how segregated SF is. The marina/pac heights/nob hill is super nice and feels very safe, however Soma and the Tendy are sketch. It's quite bizarre.

Luke Fender

How do you fix crime? Reduce poverty. Simple

Was not expecting the hoff twins to just be there out of nowhere lmao

Anonymous

Longtime fan, as a Bay Area resident had to subscribe for this series.

Anonymous

The fentanyl origin explanation was excellent. The rest of the video is good too, but that felt important

Anonymous

Modern day journalism at it's finest seeing all this stuff and hearing the stories is crazy

Miccalo

"Since 2018, around when these American-funded, Chinese manufacturers began working with the cartels in Mexico.." just another day in the human race 🤷‍♂️

Doodoo head

The interaction between the FEA guys and the kids selling candy was really interesting, especially asking the white guy some tough questions. Also the history of fentanyl was great, could do a whole ep on that imo

Anonymous

Great work Andrew. I used to live in SF, now I live in Portland, you could definitely get some interesting material up here and I'd be really curious to learn more about the underbelly..

Trevor Koskela

Unreal footage. This is the real news.

Anonymous

Man did you even watch the video. They make light of the situation but its not like they could just get a job and support themselves, the system is too fucked. Just listen to the guy say he´d love to get a Union job in the future.

Anonymous

I’m from the Bay Area, born and raised. I live on the east coast now, my family has lived in the bay for the last 100 years. Really appreciate the coverage of the city and how you guys talk to the real people who live there with a non judgmental, compassionate, and earnest voice.

Anonymous

The CIA wasn't "possibly" involved in crack, IT WAS

Urdnot Wrex

this is the most unbias vid on the Bay, and Andrew you did wonderful on this can't wait for the next one.

Anonymous

Fucking twins popping up out of nowhere at the end killed me

Anonymous

Loved this vid. Some quick feedback / criticism: some of your research was rushed and lazy. It's called COVID NINETEEN because it originated in 2019, not "early 2020". Also, when you said "There isn't any music about fentanyl" I IMMEDIATELY thought of Pinto by The Alchemist & Boldy James. "get a brick of blow and cut it / hit it with the fentanyl." Research MORE than just five minutes, guys. I know you're at your best when you're out on the streets capturing raw reality, but it's slip ups like these which can hurt your credibility.

Anonymous

ive been a fan foreva and jus became a patron today !! my only critique is that the music during the interviews is too loud and starts and stops abruptly/awkwardly. it’s kinda distracting at times to me. but regardless i love ur content !!!

I love you channel 5! Thanks for making documentaries like this (Im from SF and more attention needs to be brought to the drugs and homelessness)

Conner Beurskens

The pills are not Percocet laced with fentanyl. It’s fentanyl made into the shape of a 30mg roxycodone, though I suppose that doesn’t matter much when your loved one is gone either way.

Noah

yoo bro i think the coyotes from the boarder videos faces aren’t covered my guy idk maybe im trippin

Samantha

At least fentanyl overdose is painless. You’re here one second and the next you’re not. Don’t even know what hit ya. Wish I didn’t know that…
