The hackberry tree in the show is actually located in Dongbu Village in South Gyeongsang Province and was designated as a natural monument last year because of it's appearance in the show. There are only two other hackberry trees in South Korea with that designation. In a perfect example of life imitating art the designation split the village because people living within 500 meters of the tree are restricted from what they can do with their property and were against the it.

The acting of the Mom always gets me on this episode. I agree with what you said, with that one-shot it feels like all the memories that she tried to bury came flooding in. The sudden realization and I think it was the first time that the character felt vulnerable and showed true emotions. Great acting!
