I did not expect for them to be that way to the same ones that they said they wanted to debut with LOL. Rain, scratch that - all the dance instructors I've seen are so intimidating when evaluating dance. The stage, song parts and discipline being all on them was a curveball - but they did say it's all up to them. What did you guys think of this episode?

I was bummed about Sunoo getting kicked to Ground because I really loved his voice, so I’m hoping he can make a comeback. It’s crazy how harsh the training environment is, but I suppose it makes sense because they’re getting a feel of what it’s like being an idol having to learn songs and difficult group chores in short amount of times for really big stages. Rain really gave me whiplash with how he didn’t judge them too harshly on their evaluation but then was totally cut throat during the test. It was funny to me how he said he would be looking at it from an audiences point of view because me (being the “audience”) was blown away by how well they did, especially given the circumstances. They had to learn allllll of that with no guidance and training. Lol, really shows their potential. It’s a bummer so many have to go to Ground, but I guess that gives us a chance to check out the current Grounders potential that move up to I-Land as well. Also, side note, I’m happy we got to see some of Son Sung-deuk’s thoughts and opinions. I was excited to see him as a judge being that he’s the top choreographer for Big Hit. Lol, we see so many snippets of him here and there from BTS’ content so I think it’s cool to see him in this show. I hope we see more of him and that he ends up coaching the I-Lander’s or Grounder’s at some point.

Ah, also for people I’m hoping stay: Daniel, Youngbin, and Jungwon.

The stress I feel watching this show is TOO real. Also the evaluations at the end were so much harsher than I thought. The added element of the kids doing the elimination votes themselves just adds to the harshness of it all too. Honestly might be tough watching this show on a weekly basis LMAO I'm too stressed for all of them </3

the friendship the trainees in ground makes me so happy bc the atmosphere could've easily been left gloomy + i'm really curious who the pds are gonna bring from ground though with the six eliminations. this ep did make me realize how important centers are.. like niki got the part because of dancing but after seeing the performance jungwon, heeseung, or geonu could've easily taken the spot. i'm really liking k too i hope we get to see him develop more . bighit has such an intimidating team though like sungdeuk and bang pd outside of bts playing around with them they truly are very intimidating individuals i heard even pdogg will be joining. i'm excited to see how this all turns out

I'm looking forward to see how the group from the ground does in I-land! I have a few favorites but most popele seem pretty likable so far. Seon just seems a little too desperate to me. He was always in the mix when something what going down and I think he might make some bad decisions with how bad he wants to be in the group. I hope to see more of their singing skills in the next episode. I can see many of them are good dancers but I want to know how they sing. I also like that they all have to do well in order for more people to stay. I never considered it would be that way but I'm glad because then they have to work together and can't just be out for themselves. The judges were harsh but from a former performers point of view or comparing it to idol groups out there, it was pretty accurate.

Lol my first thought when I'd finished watching the ep was "OMG I can finally breathe" hahaha. I'm really enjoying it so far (despite feeling on edge the entire time) but it's also my first survival show, so I have nothing else to compare it with. Also, IU has a version of their signal song btw - you should do a reaction haha. My first comment is, I was SO surprised when Sunoo not only got voted out, but also got the most votes. Out of everyone I he instantly made an impression on my because he seemed to have such a bright and positive personality (he lowkey reminds me of Soobin from TXT for some reason haha). Like a lot of people have mentioned above, I definitely enjoyed seeing how the boys at GROUND were bonding - I really like all of the guys there, but Hanbin is a fave. While I didn't initially like Heesung, by the end of the ep I felt really bad for him. I'm not sure how I feel about Seon either - he seems like a bit of a shit-stirrer tbh hahaha. Also, I totally agree with you about wanting to find out what everyone's "specialty" so to speak is, like they all seem pretty good at dancing, but I'd particularly like to hear the singers more. Even though I watch the eps when they air, I enjoy watching it again with your reactions, so looking forward to this week's ep :)

The amount of stress this episode brought me was unreal. It's quite hard to have any complete favourites since I didn't know anyone before watching the show and its only ep 2 but I've taken a liking to Heeseung, Geonu and Jungwon. And that's mainly on their talent at singing and performing and I think the group was a little too harsh on Heeseung. He was just tryna do his best yet K and Niki were busy chatting behind his back about how he leads or dances? Idk I don't wanna actively dislike anyone cause I know how Mnet gets with evil editing and all but that part didn't sit right with me. I liked Niki but now I'm not sure how I feel about him, same with Seon... But as of right not K is not working out in my favour... But hopefully things get better in the rest of the show and I really hope they do cause I'm not sure I like the way things are going. The trainees voting almost everything themselves is either going to work out well or backfire comepletely and I really can't tell which one it will be

From the I-Landers only Sunghoon and Heesung seemed to get what this is really about. Making the Team look unified and good so no one gets eliminated. Heesung's Training Method also seemed really effective to me and he was even nice about it. I honestly think they should send one of the YG Dance Teachers there for a Day and then they won't whine anymore about Heesung being to harsh to them. I'm honestly not usually for treating the Trainees harshly but they won't survive in Kpop if they are already complaining now when one of their own just treats this like it should be treated, a Team Competition where People can get eliminated.

After this ep I was left just thinking only a couple of the I- Landers seem to understand the concept of teamwork. It feels like most of them act like they're training to debut as a solo artist. Whereas the guys in Ground have the right attitude. I think after losing half the team those that make the cut might reevaluate their approach. Rain's training approach was brilliant though, getting them to sing immediately is so important, performance stamina is critical. Felt bad seeing Niki struggle but he finessed his way to part 1, if he couldn't do it he should've been self aware enough to admit that. Also the critique about facial expressions was so on point, as a whole there's no passion shown on their faces, obviously it's a stressful situation but overall they should be loving the thrill of performing. I'm struggling as well with names and faces but of the I- Landers I like Heesung, Geonu and Jungwon. I also respect how persistent Jay was with trying to get a part.

polecatter

I liked this episode more than the first one. the weird thing for me though is that at this point, I'm mainly watching to see what happens. I don't feel strongly for any of the trainees really. I like Jay and Taki, and that's it. idk, I hope the group that debuts from this doesn't have 12 people. I hope that they halve it by the end. As someone who teaches martial arts, although it's a bit different from dancing, I can see where some of those scores come from. Some areas were out of formation, and important details of placement were missed. I haven't seen the performance put up on YouTube yet, but from how they edited it, they tried to make it as nice as possible. I think the kids are still too much in the "we're training and having fun" mindset rather than thinking about this whole thing as "we're trying to become the most professional trainees in order to start our careers." I think this is also why they were so heavily scored, to get them to stop playing around and really focus. I'm invested in this now, and I'm looking forward to the next episode.

Sham Sham

they way they did Heeseung was wrong😤 they feel he is a bad dance teacher because he adds his style into the chore. Once u actually get the choreo down/remembered there is nothing wrong with trying to incorporate ur own style into the chore to make it look different from everyone else and stand out. Then they got mad because he had the dance one by one, like bro shut up😂😂

anthonytoo

I fully agree with this comment! I thought about the YG dance guy from treasure box (that's all I know) lol. I didn't think Heesung was really harsh to them at all. They were trying to keep everyone that was there, there which was the logical plan.

anthonytoo

I feel that! Jungwon and Geonu stoof out on the stage for me. I think they were too harsh on Heeseung as well and Niki and K just behind the scenes shading was TOUGH... I had good thoughts for Niki as well, he's quick with learning and can dance well but then again I don't really know much about these trainees. I hope the show gets better too, I want more word from the judges rather than putting everything on the boys.

anthonytoo

He definitely did seem very bright and positive, I think he will help a lot of guys out in the GROUND for as long as he's there. I think them bonding in there was good as well. I think on those info cards they should have listed the positions that they wanted to become in the first episode so I could know what to expect from everyone? As of now I'm really only expecting good dancing because that seems to be the main thing they are focusing on right now. I'm glad that you're watching with me - I'd watch when they air but I wait for the full accurate subs so I can catch people's side comments lol

anthonytoo

Facts, show us their other skills! All of them performing well is an interesting concept but it does show how well their debut team can be as a whole I guess, and that makes sense. The guys that perform well OVERALL together (consistently) will make for a better team - and since there are still individual scores it allows for those doing well to stay? I think - well I hope LOL.

anthonytoo

Facts it also made me think as well. I never really thought I paid much attention to centers (I don't think I do) but the way they explained it makes a lot of sense. I agree on that, I actually think Geonu or Jungwon could have taken that from vocals and I guess facial expressions as well. I didn't even know Jungwon's name but he did keep catching my eye.

anthonytoo

HAHAHA limit that stress as much as possible! Everyone will do their best and if they don't make it I'm sure they'll continue trying!

anthonytoo

I really can barely tell you if there's a voice that stands out or is really memorable for me. I feel like that audio from the first ep really threw me off, even then, the individual singing that happened this episode wasn't really enough for me to see if I liked it anything from them (like one line with a few words :/). I think their circumstances are pretty smart though, their future is in their hands. They have to like and work well with their members for a successful career. They have to take initiative to train hard and practice so I think I agree with the way it's all on them, I just hope the judges pop in and do some judging more so as the show progresses.

anthonytoo

Go GROUND! Most definitely, I think so. Rain's method was pretty good for stamina and controlling breathing -- and even pressure because they all basically looked up to Rain as an OG so even a battle of the nerves - they'd perform in front of crowds someday they've gotta get that out of their system.

anthonytoo

I think that's what sucks the most for me. I don't mean to compare but I've only seen one other survival show and that one had me interested in at least 1-3 people by the first episode. I knew what position they wanted to be, a glimpse of personality and work ethic and a good showcase of their skills - I think they're lacking on filling us in on each person as of now. I'm also looking forward to the next episode, I liked that the scores were so blunt and honest because yeah, it should kick them into line. We shall see how this goes!

anthonytoo

I thought him adding his own style to make it look different/easier for everyone was a good move too - they thought it was disrespectful and going away from the creator's wishes so I guess it's a matter of perspective. I wouldn't have been on his tail about it though. Realistically... I thought when a dance instructor came in and seen one person out of line when dancing they'd call em out and have them dance on their own... so I didn't see a problem with that. The guy who got his pride and feelings hurt will have to get some thicker skin so there's room for him to grow, they've just started. Harsher critique is definitely going to come as the episodes go on and he hold's his spot and raises expectations being in I-LAND.

Tess

Seon is by far my favorite. I’m cheering for Heesung too because I feel like he’s really passionate and kind. They seem to have misunderstood him. The reason I love Seon so much is because #1 I love his voice https://youtu.be/4J-75i-__Cc And he’s been through so much, given the fact that he’s already been trough a survival show before (produce 101 s2 which wanna one came out of). And he’s been in multiple companies which haven’t treated their artists the best... It make sense that he’s desperate, he’s on the older side for trainees and he feels like this is one of his last chances if not his very last chance; I feel like people think he was purposely causing trouble or something... but I literally didn’t see him do anything that makes me understand why they think that. 😕 Daniel is adorable too and his personality makes me want him to succeed. I’m also paying attention to Sunghoon (figure skater).

mssmercedes

Man I have so much to say at the end of each episode a comment just doesn't cut it LOL I'm going to need you to start a after show call in stream or something.

mssmercedes

I'm starting to get a feel for the show and what they're trying to do with the trainees although I don't feel super attached to anyone yet. A few people in the final performance stood out to me though so I will keep an eye on them. This show is really like a mix of a k-pop survival show, Survivor and big brother I'm actually finding the psychological aspects the most interesting right now but hopefully as we see these guys perform more and more I'll get caught up in the vocals and dancing and personalities. I'm kind of liking the fact that we will see a lot of people rotating from ground to I-land. They will need to get used to not taking it personally if someone they become close to votes them out and they come back later I think at this point they need to learn some of these harder lessons so they can get that thick skin if they need to work together and give each other constructive criticism in the future.
