Hi all Patrons! Today marks the Patreon release of the largest update to Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K so far (previously branded as Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D HD). It includes over 100 new textures, covering both UI, environment, characters and more. It also includes a 60 FPS mode- for the first time ever in Ocarina of Time 3D! Please see the rest of the added features below;

This update is massive and adds a ton of new 4K textures, and it also includes a 60 FPS patch for the first time in Ocarina of Time 3D. Other improvements include tons of configuration changes, improved multi language support, a default keyboard controller preset, fixed the depth buffer for MXAO and Depth of Field effects and other general bug fixes plus much more!

This was posted in the last update's post as well, but as a reminder (or if this is your first time using Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K), Here are the default key bindings for using the bottom screen with your controller;

  • D-Pad Up: Free Cam (First Person View)
  • D-Pad Left: Ocarina
  • D-Pad Right: Item Slot 1
  • D-Pad Down: Item Slot 2
  • Select: Items Menu
  • Left Joystick Button: Gear
  • Right Joystick Button: Map

You may need to set these bindings again on your own controller in case Citra does not recognize it automatically. Simply double click the input button for each respective button and press the corresponding button on your controller and you should be good to go!

This should make the game much more enjoyable, especially if you're playing on a TV where you definitely don't want to be switching around between different controllers mid-action.

4K User Interface!

Yes, this is huge! The whole user interface is being remade from scratch in native 4K. Why? Because upscaling simply isn't enough for something like the menus, icons and buttons. Especially since they're large and a lot of the time up in your face constantly. I'm trying my best to keep the menus to the original art style, with a sprinkle of the N64 original thrown in as well. It's looking really nice so far, but it's still a W.I.P and further improvements will be made in subsequent updates. So far nearly all the item icons in the game have been remade, with gear icons and buttons being remade right now. Expect the entire UI to be 100% retextured soon!

Kokiri Forest has been overhauled!

This includes walls, pillars, ground textures, buildings and more! It also includes other minor textures like ladders, fences, tree crowns, bridges and more!

4K signs!

All the default signs have been remade from scratch in 4K and look stunning. They also hide a little secret... can you find it?

HD character eyes!

The eyes of many NPCs have been overhauled and look much nicer than before!

Enhanced shield reflections!

The shield reflections have been enhanced and are now 8 times the original resolution.

New tree bark textures!

The tree bark has been reworked after feedback from users. This new one is even higher quality, too!

Fixed triforce on the Hylian Shield!

I remember there was a "mod" for Ocarina of Time 3D that did just this. See, the triforce on the Hylian Shield is really stretched in the original and looks pretty bad. I've replaced it entirely with a new HD triforce that's not squished. It's all in the details! ;)

Improved Link textures!

Link's textures have been changed so the ears now look normal and not absolutely disgusting (I'm sorry but they didn't look good before, I apologize to everyone who used previous versions!)

Just kidding, of course. But these new ones do look much nicer! Link's leather straps are now also in 4K, which they weren't before.

Glorious 60 FPS!

This is arguably an even greater upgrade available in this update than any of the new textures. Special thanks to Molenin for making this feature on their own, and letting the rest of us use their cheat code and special build of Citra which makes all of this work. The 60 FPS patch is a first-time feature for Ocarina of Time 3D, and makes the game display in a buttery smooth 60 frames per second instead of the usual 30. This makes the game not just nicer to look at, but also makes it more responsive and reduces input lag. However, this feature is still in beta and has a few workarounds (you need to perform some special actions in certain instances to avoid the game from softlocking, for example. Instructions and more information is provided with the download!) Since the 60 FPS mode isn't quite ready for prime time yet, it's included as an optional special version which you can use if you're feeling adventurous (and don't mind doing a little bit of manual work!) The instructions are, like stated previously, included with the download. Have fun! :]

You find the video tutorial here!

Selecting your game region (if you're using the PAL/European or Japanese version of the game);

All you need to do now, if you're using the European version of Ocarina of Time 3D, click the "Run this if you're using the PAL (European) version of the game.bat" file inside the texture pack folder. Done! It'll now work great with your version of the game. Easy, right?

How to enable MXAO (ambient occlusion):

This means you can now experience glorious self shadowing around objects, which looks really great with OOT's fantasy art style. Try it out by doing the following:

* Set your game view to "Single" in Citra.

* Set your resolution to 10x in the Graphics Settings in Citra.

* Press the "HOME" button on your keyboard, this will bring up the ReShade UI.

* Check the "MXAO" box in the list of effects.

* Go to the "Advanced" tab in ReShade and check the box next to the depth buffer in the list with the highest value (it should be a very high number while all others are 0). This number will change constantly, but don't worry it's supposed to do that!

* Enjoy!

For video instructions, click this!

Enjoy!

The Update is available to all you Patrons here, with a public release in two weeks from when this post was published!

There is a 4K version available, if your computer can handle it. It's a large file, over 7GB so beware of that before you download it! The 1080p version is smaller in file size, but doesn't look quite as nice. You can download both and test which one works best for you, if you want! :)

Please feel free to try it out!

(Only available for use with the Citra 3DS emulator, the texture pack does not work on real 3DS consoles).

You can find more information about my HD texture pack here.

Download it here!

I am only able to make things like this thanks to your support, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me do what I love!

Thanks a lot Henriko !!

Anonymous

thank you for this i only just downloaded the previous one last week but ill get this one now! do you know if super ultrawide is supported at all? i have a 4k tv but my monitor is 5120x1440, thanks again

Anonymous

I'm having trouble with the 60fps version. Whenever I start the game (European version), it's just running at double speed (audio is normal speed, gameplay is double). The L+R+Up hotkey does not do anything.

Anonymous

This is grand, Henriko. Thanks for being such a Zelda fan

Sega-Boy

Is there a way to transfer your save from the previous version?

henrikomagnifico

It's easy! Just copy & paste the "sdmc" folder in the "User" directory from the old version to the new one and select to overwrite when it asks :)

Anonymous

Most definitely. I'm so glad I subscribed today. You truly are amazing for what you've done here with this remake. It looks stunning on youtube. Can't wait to see what it looks like when I fire it up in 4k!

Anonymous

Perfect timing for my 3080 rig just arriving thank you <3

Sweet. Check out this article you're mentioned in"Fan Upscales The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time In 4K 60 FPS" https://www.thegamer.com/fan-upscales-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-4k-60-fps/amp/

hi. for some reason when i go to click the Zelda Ocarina of Time 4K.exe file at 1:12 in your install video, it loads up the 3d only version not the 3d 4k and then at the end after ive copied all the textures and everything the game wont load. could i get some help with this?

Anonymous

what i mean by the game wont load is when i go to launch the game in citra, it causes citra to freeze up and crash now

henrikomagnifico

If you are using the European version of the game, the you must rename the texture folder from 00004000033500 to 00004000033600 or the textures won't load. The easiest way is to just run the .bat file in the texture pack directory and it will automatically do this for you :)

Anonymous

I figured it out. It was the ROM version. Switching to the American one got it to work. However, it did not run well enough to justify trying to play in 60fps. I recommend people hold off on trying this for now.

Help! So I thought I would try and use my Switch Pro controller with this. I went to the Install this to use Switch Pro Controller folder, installed ViGEmBus Setup 1.16.116.exe, then opened the BetterJoy program and my system went haywire it was like the home button was being held down and I couldn't do anything. So I rebooted my system, uninstalled the driver and now my Windows 10 bluetooth won't connect to either my Switch Pro controller OR my SN30 pro controller! It works fine with my XBox controller but will no longer detect the other controllers and I didn't have that problem until I tried running that software and installing those drivers. I tried to reinstall the drivers but it's still not working, and those controllers work fine on other systems. *Update* So I had a wireless XBox 360 Controller adapter and I discovered that apparently the adapter apparently died and that was causing interference with the bluetooth on my PC. I removed the adapter and threw it out and now everything works!

When i Try go in that small path to pick up Kokiri Sword while crawling it stop what Can I Do?

Anonymous

Download quota has been exceeded. Oh, I figured it out, signing in on Google Drive overcame this for me.

henrikomagnifico

Yep lots of people are downloading it simultaneously so the link got temporarily disabled. Try now!

henrikomagnifico

This only happens when using the 60 FPS patch. You must Hold LB+RB+D-Pad Up while crawling in tunnels when using the 60 FPS Patch (it should turn 2x speed while doing that) or it will softlock. This is an issue with the 60 FPS patch which still is in beta, and will be resolved in future versions.

Anonymous

Is it possible to load / save states in this release? As soon as I load a state, Citra crashes. Any ideas?

Anonymous

it says "Ocarina of Time 3D HD" in the menu, but I downloaded the 4K version hmm

Anonymous

incredible work you have done! im in awe

Anonymous

Hey I have a question, not sure if the issue is my computer but for whatever reason whenever I enter full screen on both 60fps and regular my frame rate halves. This makes the regular version run at 15 and the 60fps version run at a normal 30. Do you know what caused this? Playing in windowed they hit their target no problem but as soon as I hit f-11 it’s capped at half that. Any settings I should try turning on and off? Also than you your work is incredible!

Anonymous

60fps was beautiful, got past the crawling part, but enemies on the way to deku tree behaved oddly with animations so will stick to playing through on 30fps for now

Anonymous

I can't get any of the controller commands to work, anyone know the fix?

Anonymous

I'm using a xbox wired controller. Also, the game runs normal speed during gameplay but 2x speed during cutscenes, is that just how it is?

Anonymous

I used "double click here if you have Pal" before launch game with ur .exe but textures of text isn't like ur vidéo.... it's again as without texturepack, even for "boutton A" and the circle with it

henrikomagnifico

Make sure that the game's textures folder has the proper name in the textures folder! It should be called "0004000000033600"

Anonymous

Hello, I installed the 60 fps patch but the game speed (when Link is running for example) is higher. Do you have a solution please? Thank you for your work.

Anonymous

I've read on one of your other texture packs that using the 4k version even if playing it in 1080p is better. My computer can't handle the 4k. Does the same apply here? Should I download the 4k pack?

Anonymous

in 60 fps mode the citra emulator closes, i would really like it to help me, because that was the reason i wanted to play it

Anonymous

Hello I have a problem with not being able to read text in game.

Anonymous

Can the 60fps build of citra be used to play other games in 60fps? :)

henrikomagnifico

Unfortunately it's tailor made for OOT3D and requires two custom cheat codes to make the game display in 60 FPS, and even then it's quite buggy and is still in beta. But 60 FPS builds may be made for other games in the future!

henrikomagnifico

Make sure that you're using a working .3DS NTSC/PAL rom of Ocarina of Time 3D and that it's not crashing in regular Citra!

Anonymous

Hey man! You did a great job on this work! But i have one question, in downloaden the 4k zip file and when a start the game its says in the screen its only HD. what can i do? cheers mate

henrikomagnifico

Hi Vincent! This is normal and is a simple oversight on my end, I just forgot to replace the logo texture with the updated 4K one before uploading the latest update (the texture pack was called just Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D HD before, it has since been rebranded as Ocarina of Time 4K). This will be resolved in future updates. Hope this answers your question!

henrikomagnifico

Hi Kaliman! Make sure you are using the North American version of the game and that it is a .3DS or .CIA rom file, not .XCI- that won’t work. Also make sure that the 60 FPS codes are enabled in the cheats menu when you are running the game (in the top bar of Citra when you are running the game, there is a cheats tab you can view). If the issue persists after this please get in touch with me in DMs or on Discord!

henrikomagnifico

This is an oversight on me end, I simply forgot to replace the logo texture to say ”4K” instead of ”HD” last update. The texture pack has since been rebranded from ”HD” to ”4K” after release 1.2.1 and this issue will be resolved in future updates. With that being said, the textures are still in 4K resolution and not in HD as the logo might make you believe. Hope this answers your question!

henrikomagnifico

Great that you got the issue resolved! This might help others having the same issue in the future :)

Anonymous

Great job on this texture pack Henriko! My one gripe is that fonts look smeared right now, is there any word on updating that in future versions? Thank you!

Anonymous

Greetings Henriko. Still trying to figure out how to make this work on mac. It says just copy the files but hours invested still no luck getting this to run on mac. Please see this thread from a month ago on your site – any way you can please help us? https://www.henrikomagnifico.com/forums/texture-packs/i-want-to-use-the-texture-pack-for-zelda-ocarina-of-time-on-my-mac-where-exactly-do-i-have-to-copy-the-files-in-order-to-work

Anonymous

Hi! I downloaded the 4K package and followed the procedure, but unfortunately it didn't open the 4K version, it opened the normal version of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Could you help me, please?

Anonymous

Hi henriko! I got an problem When I downloaded 4k version I don't have item 4k interface. Can you help me?

Anonymous

Hi, I have the same problem like Pit-er. My interface is not High Res.

Anonymous

I had the same problem. The game opened the wrong texture folder. I copied the textures in the folder the game is actually using, that worked fine.

Anonymous

hi there, i apparently dont have a game rom, whatever that is, so i cant play the game at all, cant even finish seting it up, anyone on here know how i do that ?

henrikomagnifico

Unfortunately I can't distribute the game rom itself with the texture pack since that would be illegal. Instead you have to get the game rom yourself, which you can dump quite easily from your own 3DS or 2DS system! (That's the legal way). For more information, check out this neat little guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0P7OgO5xPV0

henrikomagnifico

Are you using the European (PAL) version? If so, you must rename the texture folder to correspond with the european version of the game, or the textures won't load properly.

Anonymous

Yeah I just wanted a recommendation to a rom, hypothetically or whatever for legal reasons, and I don’t have a 3ds, trying to get this going on my gaming laptop alone, soninfortunenately that link wasn’t helpful to me at all

Anonymous

when i load up the 60fps file it keeps saying that an "fatal error occured" do you know how to fix that if so thanks

Anonymous

I have the same issue as C10ud9

henrikomagnifico

Try moving the 60 FPS Patch folder to somewhere else on your PC, like your desktop. The reason it's crashing is likely because the file path is too long.

henrikomagnifico

I Lachlan! I already responded to your message in a DM, the solution is also in the message I sent to C10ud9 in this same comment section.

Everything looks fantastic and I am very happy Henriko took the time to make this. I am having a game breaking issue since I can't read dialogue text boxes though. While playing the 30fps version, my character dialogue boxes are unreadable with white boxes highlighted over them and the chests textures turn to trippy rainbow colors. It usually occurs after using save states, but I think it still happens to me even if I don't save state anything. Anyone know how to fix this? Your help would be greatly appreciated :). Thanks

henrikomagnifico

Hi B! This is an issue with Citra and how it loads textures and unfortunately the only way to fix it is to disable "Linear Filtering" as well as any upscale filters that are active (like xBRZ Freescale) in the Citra Graphics settings. This will make the text pixelated but the rest of the textures will display correctly. Citra team has been alerted of this problem and are (hopefully) working on a better fix soon!

Anonymous

Hi, your work is fantastic I wanted to thank you a lot. For me everything works fine but i still have a problems... I can't play the 60fps version. The game starts and seems to run pretty well. As in your video the speed is 200%/200% and I get 60fps. But the game is like playing two times too fast. It's really like if I put a 2x speed. Do you have any idea ? Thanks for your help!

henrikomagnifico

This is unfortunately a limitation in Ocarina of Time 3D which can not be fixed with a simply texture upgrade, since the font is hard coded into the game using an old school file format called ".QBF" which was used rarely in the 90s and early 2000s for some applications. It is not a widely understood format and is at the moment incredibly difficult to view and edit, so for the time being the font will not be in as high quality as the rest of the textures. You can disable the upscaling filter (xBRZ Freescale) in the Citra graphics settings to return to the normal pixelated font of the original 3DS game, which might look better depending on your preference. I'm working hard to find a solution to this issue, but for now I'm sorry about this inconvenience!

Anonymous

So i waited a couple of days again to download the 4K pack and the google download yet again exceeded the limit. Do you have a alternative download link pls?

Anonymous

So I downloaded the 4k version, but when I boot up the game it says its just the regular hd version

Anonymous

Just double click on (DOUBLE CLICK THIS IF you use the PAL (European) version, or textures won't load!) then you can start on (Zelda Ocarina of Time 4K)

Anonymous

Won't let me download

Anonymous

Got it nvm lol

Hi new subscriber here. Is the Legend of Zelda OOT logo that appears during the opening screen supposed to remain the same? When I start playing, I don't see the 4k added to the logo, or is that just a cute add-on you did for your screenshots and videos? It doesn't say 4k on the game logo during the opening screen. Maybe that's a stupid question to ask. But I'd still like to know. Thank you.

henrikomagnifico

Hi Normand! No, it should say 4K on the title screen in the latest version. The post you've commented on here isn't the latest version, though! Have you tried the latest version of the texture pack? (It can be found in the Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D 4K 1.3.3 Patreon Release post!)
