One backlog commission down! Now that I’m done with the OJST comic, I’m hoping I can stick to my “one backlog piece per week” pace. Time will tell!

The background was really challenging for me, and a good learning experience. I tend to get overwhelmed by backgrounds because I fret over the details, but I routinely forget that in many cases, less is more. If the background isn’t the focus of the image, too much going on can be distracting, so the challenge becomes how to simplify and give the sense of the environment without over-rendering. I think I took a big step in the direction of elegance with this one and I’m proud of that.

The pose is a little catywumpus, mostly due to the constraints of the client requests, but I think I made it work.
