This page is very much a homage to the art of Jack Kirby. Like quite a lot of you, I made a few crazy lockdown purchases, and one of those was the rare and out of print comic adaptation of 2001 A Space Odyssey that Kirby produced in the 70's. I love the wigged-out space sequences that Kirby drew, so I just had to pay homage on this page.

The creature- refered to here by the aliens as a 'Battle Beast' is a non-sentient fusion of organic and machine. It's a nod to the Ro-Beasts of the Voltron cartoon (a childhood favourite of mine). 'Battle Beasts', for those of you with obscure memories of 80's ephemera, were also a range of toys years ago. They were cyborg anthropomorphic animals with big swords and axes. Battle Beasts fucking ruled! I had a ton of them and I wish I'd hung on to a few.

Anyway, we're into the final pages of this particular Altawoman story. There will also be more Mary's Curse coming very soon!

It looks like not only are monsters attacking, but so is Mars! At least translation technology seems to have improved since 1996.

So great! I bought that 2001 large-format comic when I was a kid and read it to death before I ever saw the movie. So I was constantly referencing it when I finally did

I did! I paid about 45 pounds for it, which I think works out at about 55-60 dollars. Worth every penny, it's awesome.

It's such a bizarre thing to exist, but I suppose outside of catching a repeat on TV or a cinematic re-release there was no other more visual way of experiencing a cult movie like this.
