What's up w Grayscale? BTC ETH discounts too good to be True?

What’s up with Grayscale? BTC vs GBTC || ETH vs ETHE? Grayscale Premiums GBTC worth it? The opinions expressed in the video are for general informational purposes only and are not intended to provide specific advice or recommendations for any individual or on any specific security or investment product. It is only intended to provide education about the financial industry. GBTC is the largest and most popular crypto option for accessing Bitcoin. The Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), is a closed-end fund holding Bitcoin in “cold storage,” or offline No redemption mechanism What is GBTC A closed-end fund has a fixed number of shares offered by an investment company through a private offering - no redeeming or creation of shares Open-end funds (eg mutual fund) are offered through a fund company that sells shares directly to investors A closed-end fund functions much more like an exchange traded fund (ETF) than a mutual fund Open End & Close End Funds Differences Bitcoin ETFs are exchange-traded funds that track the value of Bitcoin and trade on traditional market exchanges rather than cryptocurrency exchanges They allow investors to invest in bitcoin without having to go through the hassle of using a cryptocurrency exchange while providing leverage to its price They have no premium They have very low management fees 1% to 0.75% and The CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (BTCX), which came to market in early March, charges an even lower 0.40% ETFs Fraud They get hacked or lose their coins The 2% management fee It only trades during market hours Counter-party risk ie you do not control your bitcoin You cannot download your bitcoin Can trade at a high premium eg 40% in Dec 2020 GBTC Risks 2% fee is pro rated on a daily basis Easy on-ramp Available in retirement accounts Available to people with regular brokerage accounts who cannot get access to crypto exchanges Currently trades at a serious discount GBTC Advantages 40% premium in December 19% discount now Current GBTC Premium Last 90 days - the BTC stangnancy Bitcoin down 4% GBTC down 22% There’s your 18% GBTC Premium - Closer Look Bitcoin price sky rocketing Money poured in to buy Bitcoin Zero selling Demand exceeds supply Why The Premium in Dec? No redemption capability People are accessing different on ramps eg Paypal, Kraken, Coinbase, etc Different funds are now available eg skybridge Canadian and Brazilian ETFs with far lower fees Supply exceeds demand Bitcoin Price has been flat for 3 months Why Is It So Discounted Now? The GBTC Competition Grayscale Premiums But it Goes Beyond Bitcoin TICKER PREMIUM Cost $GBTC: BTC -18.14% $39.28 $ETHE: ETH -8.72% $38.80 $GDLC: Large Cap 4.43% $39.00 $ETCG: Eth Classic -42.85% $53.56 $LTCN: Litecoin 1172.62% $394.45 $BCHG: BCH 166.14% $33.10 What will Happen to GBTC? Lifecycle of a Grayscale product: 1 2 3 4 To own 1 BTC worth you need to buy 1060 GBTC shares Costing you $41806 Saving you $8,225 The Math Today BTC PRICE GBTC BTC per GBTC GBTC Premium over BTC $50,031.100 $39.43 0.000943172 -19.68% To own 1 Bitcoin w GBTC 1060.252001 $41,806 Savings $8,225 It will convert to an ETF Problem is we do not know when - probably autumn winter 2021 Still a great on ramp with 20% discount Especially for those who want to sell at top of Bull Market - take profits and then buy BTC proper Once converts to ETF - 2% fee will go away and of course the Discount to NAV will also disappear GBTC has to be granted an ETF first as they hold 5% of all BTC with $32.7bn or 654,885 BTC Conclusion Patreon.com / Want more? If you have $1,000 right now, would you buy gbtc or Ethe?

Greetings from London. Just watched your Christmas Day video - referenced BTC at 40x the price of ETH as the normal range. Is BTC therefore massively undervalue now? SHould we move from ADA, ETH, DOT back into BTC???

Anonymous

Thank you for going over the Grayscale Trusts. This 19% discount is driving me crazy. It feels like I should sell my Bitcoin and buy GBTC in my self directed IRA. Just concern when it converts to an ETF what will happen with premium/discount at that time

Anonymous

If we buy it at a discount now in the trust and it converts to the actual price upon converting to an ETF, do we immediately get a 20% jump in value?

Anonymous

James thank you for simply being who you are 🙏🏻 I'm learning slowly but surely because of your content. Grateful

Hi James. Compound (comp) has just been made available for holding in my Roth Ira. Any comment would be appreciated. It has done remarkably well on price and is around # 50 on the market cap list. Thanks for all your time and patience.

I’m super heavy into the ETHX.B Galaxy Ethereum ETF in my TFSA. I pray that I make gains to counter all of the dumb mistakes that I made this year ( before finding this community!)

Regarding DeFi, "A new report from the World Economic Forum estimates that $866.9 trillion could eventually be transferred from traditional financial markets to blockchain-based decentralized finance (DeFi), whose current TVL is over $80 billion. Driving this exponential growth is the evolution of more advanced hybrid smart contracts utilizing external data sources and storage systems to form the building blocks of Web 3.0." $866 Trillion. That's impossible to fathom. DeFi is going to explode.

ETH has really come a long way, but i believe BTC is overdue for a big move to get back in line with historical trends. but I cannot tell you how bullish I am on ETH so it is a bit of a dilemma. I would try balance 60% BTC 25% ETH and balance ADA and DOT

InvestAnswers

the discount and or premium will go to zero. it has to. hence an ETF is a foregone conclusion and therefore you will make your $$$ back by buying at a discount.

InvestAnswers

yup theoretically that is what they have to do. but once the announcement is made the arbitrage sharks like myself will find ways to make the most of the news.

Compound is on my list but not a top 10 for me right now... working on some new analysis and will take a deeper look.

Hi James, thank you so much for all your great content! After watching your last video I’m wondering if I should sell my Bitcoin ETF which is in my TFSA account (Tax free savings in Canada) and replace it with Grayscale to take advantage of the discount.

Looking forward to the Solana analysis :)

James I LOVE your channel and you are the only one I would ever spend money on for Patreon, but you must do something to improve the live broadcasts. They are great in theory but the glitch and jump around deleting information...it is very frustrating. I just wanted you to know :) Thanks for everything!!!!

Thanks for letting me know. I don’t know if it’s YouTube or on my Internet but I have 20 MB a second upstream and that’s as quick as it gets where I am right now. A mere 3 MB should suffice. I will check it out.

Anyone living in the EU? I can't seem to buy any Grayscale here. How is this for others?

Sir James, Thanks for taking your time to give this much selflessly. The substance in your presentation will take normal folks like myself endless time to research. How you pack this much quality in a manner that it can be understood by anyone without expertise like myself in this sector is simply incredible. Love it💙

Advice on purchasing another 55k in Roth-both in timing and allocation. According to TA, it appears we might dip to at least the 43k mark in next week or so, so I'm inclined to wait... but any advice is greatly appreciated. Currently thinking 75% to GBTC and 25% to ETHE. Here is my current allocation: Grayscale BITCOIN Trust (GBTC) SHARES 91.40% IRA 8,381.00 6.62% ROTH1 607.00 1.98% ROTH2 182.00 9,170.00 total Grayscale Ethereum Trust (ETHE) SHARES 57.48% IRA 2,738.00 36.15% ROTH1 1,722.00 6.36% ROTH2 303.00 Total Shares: 4,763.00 GBTC ETHE 69.84% 30.16%

Interactive Brokers is what you need. Set up an account. Don't be beholden to the dinosaur banks . Ok thank you ...I sent them an email this morning asking coincidentally....and I half set up an account with them weeks ago as thought their forms and paperwork were a pain so used saxo who list them but they wont let me buy .... but that will be great 👍

Hey James, for DeFi review, I'm assuming you're definitely looking at all the big cap pop picks like LINK, AAVE, AVAX, etc. Here's one much smaller pick I'd suggest is definitely worth a look, COTI.

Can I find the Grayscale spreadsheet somewhere in discord ? Jim, Thanks for all your hard work you put in to help everyone! I appreciate you.

What software do you use for your presentations. Great work and greetings from Bermuda. Sean

where do we find the links to the spreadsheets and worksheets that James shares with us? Where we can input our own data.

Hi, James. Regarding Defi Tokens, I’m sure you’ll eventually end up analyzing more than three sometime in the future, but for a starting point, might I simply suggest the present top three Defi coins ranked by market cap? CoinGecko lists them as Uniswap (#11), Chainlink (#12) and AAVE (#28). UNI and LINK are far and away the most dominant right now according to market cap numbers. Might this in some way suggest a first mover advantage?

Thank you so much for the content! Two quick questions: (1) you mentioned a spreadsheet you created that was available to Patrons, do you know how I can access this? (2) you also mentioned asking the patron community on discord - is there a link to the channel? thanks!
