Alright. Some good news, and some bad news!

Good news! Beware of Chicken Volume 1 is fully edited, beta read, and this weekend was set off to a production company to be turned into an audio book. Audio book is 100% confirmed and begins production very soon.

Which is a load off my shoulders, let me tell you. Inching to the finish line! And while I can't say exactly who is voicing quite yet... they have done another very popular cultivation series.

Edit: they posted on twitter, so yes, its Travis Baldree

The bad news! The chapter I worked on today... I can't post yet. I realised this most of the way through working on it, I don't think it will fit into the timeline just quite yet, and I've made the decision to delay it because I think it will have better impact if its posted later, and I don't want to muddy things up with something that seems like it should happen later. Its essentially a rewrite day, which was a bit of a kick in the teeth, as I was feeling better after my break on friday.

But thats enough excuses from me. I come with offerings. Chapters 1-5 of Volume 1, the final versions. I pray that there are no typos. I did get a professional editor on board, but I also did some last minute tweaking... so we'll see if I caught my mistakes.

I’m gonna bet Travis Baldree. Any takers?

Frank

Take all the time you need — I can’t speak for everyone but I love the thought/care/polish that goes into this series

I can't wait for the audio book! Thank you su much for all of your work

taukid

AUDIOBOOK CONFIRMED!!!!! Also can't wait to read the edited and revised volume 1. Hopefully you fixed the early Jin Rou/Rou Jin name confusion.

Michael Fannon

Take your time. And can't wait for the audio book. Got an estimate date and who will be narrating?

Anonymous

When the delayed chapter comes out can you let us know which it is?

Anonymous

Yo thats awesome congratz, and dont worry about needing to shuffle things a bit

Keep up the beautiful work, out of every online story I'm reading this is the only one I'm willing to give my money to simply for the thought and care you put into it. When other authors have lapses in their chapter deadline it causes frustration, when you have lapses in your deadline I know it's because you are critiquing and perfecting the story that I know I will love.

The reason this story is number 2 on royal road is because of all the decisions you have made so far. It's why a shit ton of people gift you money for only 2 extra chapters. If you think you need to delay something or take a break it's probably because your right. You haven't been wrong so far, in fact you've been killing it king. Don't feel bad about the decisions you think are right but feel bad because you think your disappointing us. Most of us are here because we want to support your work and see it completed into a wonderful story. A completed Harry the Rock Hound if you will :). If it takes a decade or 2 then that's what it takes.

I'm gonna friggin Fangirl if it's Travis Baldree

Will we get a kindle release first or are you going to do a dual release after ACX approval?

Philip

Cheers Farmer.

"He had the stench of Qi about him, thicker and headier than she’d ever smelled before" - I assume you mean heavier?

Anonymous

Page 26 para 13, "whiles green Qi swirled around his hand and disappeared into the soil.." I think the "whiles" should just be "while"? Also 2 periods after the word "soil". I hope you don't mind me nitpicking!

Carl Smith

Have you thought about doing a physical book? You could do a Kickstarter to get the actual number you would need for a first run and since the actual book is already done it would just need to be printed and shipped.

The Lost Pages

Don't even need to do that. There are plenty of print on demand places that you could get a physical book set up through. I'd pay extra on Patreon even for a signed copy. <3

Vorquel

It's good to read the old chapters again. I hope to see the final versions of the later chapters here too. But if not, I'll buy it in an instant. Too good not to buy.

Oskatat

Maybe a survey among your patrons would be a useful tool. Why did people become a patron, why did they choose the tier they're at, and whatever other questions you'd like to ask. I surely did not become a patron for the advance chapters. I looked at my spending room over the last few months and decided I could pick a couple of authors I thoroughly enjoy to support. I've been getting a lot of enjoyment out of a *free* online book. I decided you earned my money. You worked hard, you still work hard, you're delivering a great product. What more does it need? So, write at your own speed, do what you think best. You've been pretty spot-on so far.

Dang. The amount of extra details added to those first few chapters is pretty large. It seems to me to almost double a few of them in size!

which was extremely painful with how many injuries I've got. -- Beyond this everything is past tense heading towards Crimson Crucible City, far -- If you're aiming for a primary US audience the standard is 'toward', 'onward', 'backward', etc.. stairs, into a forested path, heavy with fog. -- onto useless against cultivators and Spirit Beasts, and I -- extra space between 'and Spirit' In chapter 3 the breaks change to ⇔, before that there was only an arrow on one side, chapter 4 mixes them.

TheFallingWhale

Thank God you got a good narrator i can't wait for the audiobook

STORRM

WOOHOO!.gif Travis Baldree will fit this so well, he should enjoy it to and that ready makes a really big differences. fuck dude im so pumped! only way to make it better would be to have Annie Ellicott voice earth-chan she has the perfect voice for little big sister still this is s win for good books with good narration!

Demian Buckle

Thank you for the hard work. Looking forward to the book release, will there be a physical version?

David Bean

“No hard feelings, okay, buddy?” he muttered to the mound, whiles green Qi swirled around his hand” Whiles should be while. Also, Meihua’s father lets him borrow the ox but he thanks Hong Xian instead when they get to verdant hill. Otherwise everything is perfect. The added text makes an already amazing story just about perfect.

Darune Albane

There is an author that uses readers like you to edit and find issues in her books before publishing .. https://pamuphoff.livejournal.com/ .. she is doing a RR style thing on live journal

Brother Farmer, you work your ass off for this. Don't beat yourself up if there's a day, a week, or a month where you're struggling with it. I can't speak for everyone but let me tell you, I'm grateful to have been here to watch BOC grow into what it is today. Thank you for sharing your labor with us.

Matt

New patron here. Sad for no new chapter on my fist day but happy you're not releasing a chapter you're not happy with yet. Love the story and glad I can afford to help support your wonderful writing in a small way.

Kittora

yo Travis Baldree, nice. they are releasing a short book called legends and lattes, got to read it prepub. its sooooo cute and wonderful. anyways Im eager to hear the audio version. also rewrites happen no worries, take the time you need. we be here.

Chris Warner

huzzah! i want to see this go higher! i think this rivals ISSTH

BlueMage_VT

"I looked back to my little warrior. He had managed to get to his feet and was glaring as hatefully at the fox’s corpse." Mobile won't let me drop down a line. Is the "and was glaring as hatefully" a typo or am I just reading it wrong? Just pointing it out in case it was missed in the editing. I love all the extra character and world building in this version, looking forward to getting the finished product!

Anonymous

Just a question, if the audiobook is confirmed, what about the ebook? I would love to pick this up on Kindle and was just wondering if that was a future option.

Anonymous

I really like the new start of the book, it fleshes out Jins initial motivations much more, and adds a touch of worldbuilding. So excited for the book + audiobook release, it makes it much easier to recomend to friends!

Lord Felidae

Okay, I think at this point you should go a bit slower for a while since it seems there have been issues lately. Take your time until things stabilize, don’t stress yourself. Jin wouldn’t want that.

BlueMage_VT

Or just "glaring hatefully" or something. It feels like the "as" is unnecessary or that a word was removed that gave it context.

Nick

If you are struggling to write, maybe take a few weeks off to celebrate the completion of your first book. It'll help clear your head, let you revitalise and come back stronger than ever.

vees

Is there going to be a physical version as well? Or just the audio book?

Anonymous

Fantastic post as usual. Might want to take a month off. Take a breather. Write out some storyboards. Perhaps write some if inspiration strikes and just keep them so you have a bit of a backlog for the future. Take care of yourself.

> A few of the other disciples were kind enough to drag my—Jin’s? my?— twitching body back to my little room... then ransacked some of the herbs I-he’d grown as "payment" for their good deed. as this is before the name change, shouldn't this be *Rou's* body? Also, there's several paragraphs that aren't actually indented

Man, If I was still in the Sect, I'd be doing shitty chores, or sitting in a corner cultivating for months on end, instead of actually making stuff. I smiled when I looked up at the grassy hills that led to the back of my new home, the sunset warming my body. Then I wandered into my house, and collapsed on what I was charitably calling my bed. It was just a frame with some blankets on it, but it was mine and I’d made it! I curled up, and went to sleep, my mind already whirling with what I would do tomorrow. ...he... got ready for bed, *then* he wandered into the house?

Would you rather he wrote I put away my things and took a piss? :P That's what i thought it meant.

Oskatat

hadn't mentioned it yet, but wow is this an improvement compared to the original. I really like getting a bit more of a view of his journey down the mountain and to the farm, or where the farm will be
