This one’s devolved. Not only has it strayed massively from the initial premise and beats, but it seems like most of what we’re getting are a series of rug pulls. It feels like the author is more interested in writing a series of “aha!” moments rather than an interesting conclusion to the narrative. Maybe things do wind up fine in the end, but regardless it will feel like an ass-pull. Since the author has given us no real idea of how the problems will be solved, seemingly more concerned with making certain the readers can’t figure it out beforehand, anything that does happen to set things back to rights will feel like they came from nowhere. I really enjoyed most of this story, the premise was great and most things seemed to grow naturally from there. Sure the author could occasionally get a bit unfocused, but for the most part until about 7-10 chapters ago I would rate this story as excellent. I really haven’t enjoyed any of the recent chapters though, they feel quite disconnected from what’s come before. I’ll certainly be finishing the story, but my hopes are significantly lower than they were a few months back.
