Inhuman Paradox

Oh, the last hand-drawn Disney film. Oh I miss them so.

So, this film didn't right with me for the stupidest reason. Nobody's dream is to open a restaurant. At least, nobody with that dream is willing to work as a waitress for years to do it. It doesn't happen. Idk why this little bit bothers me so much! It just does. WAIT, NO, THAT'S NOT WHAT BUGS ME!!!!!!! 5 minutes into re-watching the film and I finally realized! THE ACCENTS!!!!!!! That accent is the kind found in Louisiana, Georgia, the Carolina's, and the like. I am annoyed by people's accents from there. I couldn't figure out a good reason when this movie came out but, In 2019 I worked at a call center that distributes oxygen to people who just discharged from the hospital. And the accents of the nurses and especially the patients in the above mentioned states were so hard to listen to. I dreaded any call I got from those states because I knew I would have to listen to those people run their letters together, making the words almost unrecognizable. I quit that job after spending 2 and a half years of my life there. It always bugged me as a kid when I told people I was from Kentucky and they would drop into that accent and make fun of me. That's why this movie bugs me. That's why I get annoyed when watching it. Ok, all that said, I will try to put that aside and enjoy the movie for what it is. I will look past the accents that plagued me my whole life.

Don't you know when you make a wish, you close your eyes say please and say your wish silently. You're not supposed to let anyone else hear your wish. It's obvious she wished for a restaurant for her and her dad. My favorite character is either Prince Naveen because his accent is the only one in the movie that doesn't annoy me, or Dr Facilier. Come to think of it Luis the Alligator's accent doesn't bother me as much as the others either. I can't choose just one song to call my favorite. I like Dig a Little Deeper and Friends on the Other Side. The music is amazing! I like the story. It took me a while, 10 years in fact to get past how much most of the accents annoy me. But the accents aside, I can honestly say I like this film better than I did when I watched it last about 3 or 4 years ago.

One more thing, The drum kit said Firefly Five Plus Lou. That's the homage to Ray. I think it should've been more, but what else could you do in a restaurant where most people wouldn't know who Ray was or what he did?

This movie made me walk all around Disneyland searching for where they sold beignets (they were so delicious 😋😂). Overall, I think this one has grown on me over the years. “Almost There” is a bop and Tiana is definitely one of the better Disney role models for kids.

I love this movie for so many reasons. It avoids the overuse of every Disney cliché while keeping the audiences attention. I also love the backdrop of my hometown New Orleans. Never thought I'd get attached to bugs as characters, but here I am. They somehow made a firefly (lightning bug) and a gator into memorable characters. If you're still looking for animated films to react to, here are a few suggestions: Ratatouille, Brave, Wreck it Ralph and the sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet, Finding Nemo, Toy Story 1-4, The Incredibles 2, Despicable me 1 & 2, Hotel Transylvania, Maleficent 1 & 2 (live action, but so good; Angelina Jolie is great in both). If you are willing to go further back, the animated versions of The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Cinderella are some great classics. The live action remakes are good, but I personally think the original versions are superior.
