First anime non franchise film! This was crazy good and I have no idea how to explain what this film was even about lol. Looked at behind the scenes and all hand drawn is completely insane

ghibli movies hold a special place in my heart. it’s very minimal talking at times and just lets the art shine for itself. this was such a good starting place for your ghibli journey. as i’ve suggested howls moving castle, grave of the fireflies and princess mononoke are a MUST imo. glad u enjoyed it

(Rejoining the anime tier for Studio Ghibli...) The first and also the last time I saw this film was probably *gasp* ten years ago? I was also very confused and didn't "get" it. On a rewatch I noticed environmental themes and depictions (if not critiques) of capitalism/consumerism. Plus it's just a fun and beautiful film to watch! I feel like this film will become clearer on a rewatch, once you know the main plot and are able to pick up the details/dialogues you missed on the first watch.
