The Wonder Woman theme is so good!! Gives me goosebumps every time!

Just FYI, not all of the 4:3 shots were just added material. This film just had that many IMAX shots. So you can cut yourself some slack 😂👍🏽

You could definitely tell the studio rushed the introduction of the Justice League in here due to the success of the MCU, hence the influx of SO MANY ideas in this film (there was definitely enough material for two movies). Despite its flaws, I still enjoyed this one. Some highlights that elevate the film: *Wonder Woman’s introduction- Seeing this on an IMAX screen gave ALL THE GOOSEBUMPS (not to mention, her theme music 🎶🥹) *Hans Zimmer’s score- While I thought it was LOUD in some places, this man can compose the hell out of a movie. “IS SHE WITH YOU?” (aka Doomsday fight music) is not only iconic, but it is definitely on my cardio playlist (whenever I need an extra push 😂) *The shots in this movie were gorgeous. I know people give Zack Snyder a lot of sh*t, but he knows how to deliver on spectacle.

One of my favorite movies that I can't ever say anything nice about without being labeled a "cultist/Nazi/Terrorist/Randian/bot who doesn't even exist".

Okay so many things. The 4:3 is not the added bits. I was watching a version with all the same scenes but not 4:3. Seems like the 4:3 is a even newer version of the Ultimate that came out after ZSJL last year. The added bits are more at the start and the middle. It's all the context that makes Lex's plan a bit easier to follow, cause it was way more confusing in the Theatrical.

Believe it or not, they showed in this movie exactly how HE will be back. It's up to you to find out how.

As someone that watched the original in the cinema and first time seeing the extended (not that I remembered enough to notice what was added) I really enjoyed watching it the first time, it was fun. Rewatching this extended version I felt like the story felt more cohesive but I'm not sure exactly why. On first watch I remember thinking it was a lot of fun but the plot felt a bit meh. There is something weirdly special about these DC films cus I feel like the plots aren't necessarily great but the storytelling, flow and fun are so good that it hides it so well. Personally I thought this film was wildly overhated at the time. I think it was such a strong Marvel hype at the time that maybe this was hugely overshadowed and picked apart. I imagine comic book fans weren't necessarily happy with unfaithful (I assume) depictions of characters. Also following on from Nolan's trilogy as well is a high bar. Batman v Superman is almost a rerun of Iron Man v Captain America in a lot of ways really. I guess it's probably repeated a lot in comic books between heroes who have different ethics and who have to deal with trauma.

The one thing I disliked about the film though was the final shot. After all the funeral stuff and making us actually believe he was dead, they then show that which unravelled all the sadness felt. I didn't know about future films, maybe they weren't even announced at the time I dunno, so I think it would have made for a more impactful ending if they didn't make it obvious he was alive.

Inhuman Paradox

Yeah. The 1.43:1 (Not technically 4:3) was added with the remaster (Zack was never satisfied with the yellow-tined 4K master, and he wanted the full IMAX scenes shown without cropping).

Inhuman Paradox

They were announced, plus the Death and Return of Superman is a legendary story that there was no way they weren't gonna follow through with. Makes me think maybe the shot was just there for the casual audience who doesn't follow the news or comics and might not realize that stuff. Also, BvS came out months before Civil War and its main inspirations, the dynamics between Batman and Superman in Miller's The Dark Knight Returns and John Byrne's The Man of Steel, both came out decades before even the comic Civil War came out. As well, there is a key difference. That being Batman in BvS is definitively wrong, he's a Xenophobic stand-in for Post-9/11 America. Superman is 100% in the right in BvS, he's the good immigrant blamed for things that aren't his fault. In Civil War, both Cap and Iron Man have equally valid points which can be seen as both better (Due to being more cinematically complex) and worse (Due to not taking as hard a stand politically and maybe coming across as non-committal). I will also say that BvS isn't as unfaithful as people say. Superman was exactly like this in the Post-Crisis John Byrne/Dan Jurgens-era comics (Dan Jurgens himself is a diehard Snyder fan, and even Grant Morrison himself likes BvS. I trust the comics people more than comics fans frankly). And as for Batman, him being unfaithful and "wrong" is literally the whole point. Batman is the VILLAIN of this film. He's meant to be disturbing and wrong. It's a reversal of The Dark Knight Returns, where Batman was the last bastion of hope and Superman was a fascistic force. Here Batman is the violent tyrant, and Superman is the force for social justice. Honestly, I think that makes more sense, I never bought that Superman would (Without some sort of mind control) become the government stooge he was in Miller's work.

Esp since the version of Suicide Squad we have is barely even canon. Both BoP and TSS reference Harley being in a far more abusive relationship than the Studio Squad we got showed, they arguably treat the unseen Ayer Cut as more canon than the Studio Garbo.

Thanks for that, my knowledge of comic book history is extremely low lol For people that knew about the return, did those final scenes not feel too dragged out then? I feel like KNOWING for sure that he was coming back would have taken all the edge out of those scenes and wouldn't have been needed.

This movie has never been a favorite of mine but it has some really great moments which elevate the rest of the film. The theatrical release was significantly shorter and lacked a ton of context regarding why Superman hated Batman and why Bruce hated Superman. Lex’s plan doesn’t make any sense in the original because all of the important scenes that show us the way his plan works are cut out until what we were left with is a confusing plot with a weird villain who’s plan magically works because- plot. Even with everything else that’s added on, it’s still incredibly easy to see just how rushed this film was in order to give us a Justice League. WB wanted to compete with Marvel and didn’t care if it was rushed or if it was well made so long as they had it. That of course failed for them because they ended up turning most of the DC fandom on them with each ridiculous mistake and action they took. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. If you ever watch the theatrical version of Justice League, you’ll see exactly how far they were willing to go to sabotage Zach’s vision and his films.

Had they been less visually interesting I might've felt that. The final scenes are ones I'm willing to give a pass on the "rule of cool". I don't feel they're dragged out because the imagery is beautiful and the nice little moment with Martha and Lois is nice enough. It's totally style over substance, but I mean, so are comic books.

I'm sure you've been told this, but make sure after wonder woman, you watch Zack Snyder's justice league not the 2017 version.
