Season 2 was made after Mugen train, but the first several episodes of it are actually a retelling of the Mugen Train movie since it's an arc in the manga. The movie is (IMO) worth watching first over the Season 2 version for the emotional factor. Just a better emotional arc overall if you don't have episodes randomly destroying the flow. But the advice of watching Ep. 1 of Season 2 before Mugen train is actually a really good one. It's an introduction that really should have been in the movie but they cut it out because of time, I'm assuming. It all works out timeline-wise. It's currently the advice most long-time DS fans give to new viewers of the series.
