@2hr10min, that was Bruce Ismay getting onto the lifeboard, the creator of the ship. Look him up, in real life he did this and was hated by the world for being a coward.

I believe the ending of Rose was never directly stated, it was left open. She either was dreaming, or I believe did die, as she seen everyone else who had died on the ship. As she promised Jack, died warm in her bed with a lifetime of photos around her.
