Gotta watch out for that headband. Contents are under pressure.

That reaction when Doug pulls Holly's headband off :O

Ariamaki

This entire arc so far has just deeply sucked to read. The characters are behaving terribly, everybody's constantly portrayed with a distinct malaise and sadness even when they're supposed to be enjoying each others' company... While I can empathize with both parts of this situation it is also just not interesting or enjoyable.

You are entitled to your opinion, and to express it. I have enjoyed the story because the characters are actually approximating reality, rather than "Oh HI! We just met, let's have sex!" (would that were reality....) This isn't a criticism of your statement; I just want Eric to know there is another point of view in play.

Sleepnir

Well that was an unexpectedly important headband! Makes total sense in hindsight, though. Instant, horrifyingly gory death if you pull that sucker off during a BJ, huh?

Sleepnir

While I can sort of agree that it's unfortunate that the interactions tend to be sort of low-energy or withdrawn (I think 'malaise' was a good word choice of yours), that is kind of a necessary part of baring themselves to each other's judgment. And it's important to see each of them accepting the other for their various anxieties. Definitely a different, slower, deeper sort of burn that isn't for everyone, but I appreciate it for what it is.

Holly seems a might upset about something in the last panel.

Don’t mess with the hair.

Oof. Sorry you feel that way. I know this stuff isn't going to be for everyone. I'm trying to slowly build a relationship between two individuals with their own similar-but-differing sets of issues and flaws, and there's going to be stumbles along the way, from them as characters (and me as a writer). Regardless, a shift is on the way shortly. I wanted to to get some of the 'baggage' out of the way beforehand.

I am going to weigh in to say I'm very much liking it, Eric. This is exactly what I was hoping for, and feels incredibly relatable. If you did a whole comic like this, I'd read it. I'm not just being a crawler; I genuinely enjoy awkward, uncomfortable comedy. It's a british disease.

I'm thinking Holly is a) terrified she might hurt Doug due to the spine explosion, and is converting the fear into anger, and b) angry because of the amount of work (and risk: remember she said she's not immune to getting stuck herself) it is to corral her spines to put that on.

JasonAW3

She's kinda cute when she lets her hair down...

Sleepnir

Yep, of course! Mix of flustered embarrassment/fear and frustration at having to redo that. Very human reaction, for sure
