Of the female character Rook has designed, Aritrea is perhaps his favorite. Edging out both Sayuri and Celeste for that honor. Nanse is a close second, but as a hermaphrodite she is a different category.

Aritrea began her design with a thought. Rook likes bangs and hardly ever creates characters where you can see their foreheads. Even the side bangs that show a lot of forehead aren’t particularly in designs he created, so he endeavored to create a character that was different from his usual designs. He’d looked at several designs and hair styles before settling on the one he chose. This of course was inspired by Hakubi Washuu from Tenchi Muyo. Likewise, he’d never created a muscle girl and wished to make this design a strong, scarred, lioness, who was also beautiful. Given her popularity I think he accomplished his goal.

The lioness was the template for all Eridani lions and their unique white hair and dark fur, with light and orange markings. Fun fact, canonically, Aritrea had curly hair like her siblings, but straightens it to differentiate herself from her past. You can see the remnants in her side bangs that often threaten to curl at the ends.

In universe she is the eldest daughter of Duke Harlem Eridanus and his wife Porsha. After the death of husband and her argument with her childhood crush, Adolyn, whom she unfairly blamed for not being there for his close friend during their time of need, Aritrea left the lands of Lioncourt seeking solace and revenge.

She is currently the Commander of the 15th Company within the Border Legion. A most prestigious post. One many believed to be unearned, as she is neither Daish, nor did she rise due to merit as is the custom. No, she was appointed by Elania Valenrow, Lady of Evandale and her former Knight’s Master. Her experience in the wilds, noble pedigree, and abilities as one of the few Weapon Masters in the lands, was more than enough to earn her the Lady’s trust. Now she must do the same for the legionnaires under her command.

She holds  a special relationship with Adolyn, having known him since they were young. Though formerly boisterous, sarcastic, and outgoing, Aritrea is quiet, taciturn, and often inscrutable since her husband's death.
