Okay, the "hi" is mostly from me. I can't speak for all of Vancouver. But I do feel like a lot of the city would say hello too if it could, because it's a really nice one.

I'm back at TED and I have the luxury of not having to give a talk this year! So instead of being a nervous mess, constantly reciting my lines in a stream of mumbles, I'll be a coherent normal human being who can chat with other coherent normal human beings. This year, all I have to do is lead a workshop where we build and race robots. There are hot glue guns and cardboard, so no matter what happens, it'll be a good time.

Me backstage last year, not being a normal human being

It's mind-blowing to think about how much has happened since I was here last year. In 365 days, I've [deep breath] found out I had a brain tumor, had surgery to evict said tumor, moved into a new workshop, debuted and instantly sold out of the Every Day Calendar, exploded brains with Kari Byron, sold my houseboat, built a museum wall for all my robots, found out the brain tumor moved back in even though I changed the locks, had radiation therapy to burn said tumor, started welding, got a piano and started learning how to read music, painted a mural with my feet while hanging in the air, bought my dream car and learned how to not hate pickles. I still don't love them, but I could eat one if I was ever in an emergency where it would somehow be advantageous to eat pickles.

Saying goodbye to Alfred the houseboat

Sorry, I didn't mean for this post to become mediocre hustle porn. It's just that I constantly feel like I'm not doing enough, so it's nice to have TED mark a year gone by and be able to look back and shrug an acknowledgment that a lot of things have indeed happened since I was here last.

IN OTHER NEWS

Scott made me this amazing Cheese Louise air freshener! Unscented, because I hate things that smell more than me.

Welding, grinding, welding, grinding. It's a project that would make spool proud. The video is off to my newly hired editor Jackie (!!!) and should be up on Friday.

Would you still be my friends even if I started wearing hats? Didn't by this one, but it was a close call.

Ok, I'm off to the first TED speaker session now! So excited to be able to just lurk around and, you know, not be wearing an eyeball shirt.

XOXO
Simone

Who needs pickles anyway?

You are adorable and an inspiration and funny. If that isn't the reason you've had 100's (1000's?) of marriage proposals I'll eat my hat. I'm so glad you are doing well and that I found your Youtube channel.
