This movie should have won best picture for 1995. It wasn't even nominated.

I was waiting for one of the members of the crew to be Natalie Portman's father. The run time was 2h 50m, let's see if we can't make this a little shorter. For instance, that whole little side story where Waingro killed the girl he had sex with didn't seem necessary to me. It never tied in to the rest of the story.

HEAT was one of my original VHS letterbox movie buys, back in a day when letterbox was getting more and more difficult to find.... I love this movie... 1) Who would I be - Driver just cause I really don't care to shoot anyone 2) Natalie Portman's first movie was "The Professional" with Jean Reno, Danny Aiello and Gary Oldman - worth a watch if you haven't seen it. 3) Best heist movie based on interpersonal relationships. Flip side of tone for this movie would be "The Sting" with Paul Newman and Robert Redford 4) Don't worry - the age thing used to bother me too. Funny how time and distance changes your perspective.

Also, did you recognize Ted Levine from another even more famous movie? Can't miss a voice like that.

I think they were just trying to make sure you (the audience) see him as a really evil character by establishing that he's likely a serial rapist and murderer. That said, none of these guys are very pleasant to deal with. The irony in the writing is watching DeNiro's loner not make it out due to acting on principles (both on leaving in 30 seconds from the Heat, and not being able to suffer a loose end like Waingro), to have Pacino's character redeem his status a bit by quick thinking with his step-daughter despite a looming divorce, and to have Love save the day with Kilmer's character despite, his and his wife's, indiscretions. All of these actions are so emotionally justified, even as their consequences play out in unexpected ways. There's a lot of fodder here for discussion.

No idea you watched this already. Didn’t get a email from Patreon. Any how I am here now. Yeah this definitely on my top movie list. I have watched this so many times. Yes, this was awesome to watch in 95. I was still a teenager and this one just blew my mind. I was like how can a movie get any better after watching that. I believe love for this movie was stark difference in sound between the loud and quiet scenes. Like you said jarring. Especially that gun fight. I had never heard anything like that, and I can’t think of another movie that did that. Which may stand alone, now that movies are getting away from any live fire on set.
