I hope this movie is taught in film classes. If they could spend the $ for the dozens of hours of film to let the actors improv back in 1982, hopefully film students are inspired to do basically the same thing on their phones for free!

The reason the rating on IMDb goes to 11 is because their amps go to 11. I think what really helps this movie is the fact that the actors are all competent musicians, and they're actually playing on the soundtrack. In the early 90's and early 2000's they did go on tour. And I'm sure you looked up Harry Shearer and saw he's on The Simpsons. One of the more subtle jokes is when the manager says "Boston not a big college town". I believe I've heard that Boston has the most colleges in the smallest area. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is them walking around, trying to get to the stage yelling "Rock n Roll!!"
