Can't go wrong with either. Especially if you like neurotic men. (I enjoy both However, my gf didn't like either for that very reason)

As someone whose family has deep roots in Detroit I should vote for Grosse Point Blank, but as a record collector I should vote for High Fidelity. I can't decide. They're both good.

High fidelity really is the better movie, Gross Point Blank is a one and done

Why is Better Off Dead not on the list?

Yes Better Off Dead is a classic 80s high school comedy. Definitely a little offbeat though.

GPB is a romp that holds up. I loved High Fidelity for a long time because I saw myself in the role (music obsessive), but later realized that's just the costume worn by a manipulative, gaslighting prick (which is what Rob really is). Hard to watch now.

@Paul Cox - Have you ever read the book? I ask because for one thing, the book is worth a read in its own right - and for another, like many of Nick Hornby's novels of that era (High Fidelity, About A Boy, Fever Pitch etc.), the underlying premise is to lay bare just how pathetically immature, self-centred and lacking in self-awareness their male protagonists can be (and frequently are). I'd definitely recommend reading the book and re-watching the movie afterwards - certainly for me, once the book had me paying closer attention, Rob became far less sympathetic as a character for much of the story, and I realised this was deliberate - his story arc is supposed to be a cautionary tale for the guys in the audience, and he's definitely no hero.
