The thing about this series is that it doesn't matter which you start with. The live action isn't meant to be a perfect remake of the animation, it's just an adaptation from a new perspective. Hope you enjoy the journey in the avatar world!

As somebody who has NOT seen the animated show myself. I am looking forward to this show! I am going to watch this first then go and watch the animated kids cartoon after! My only fear is, as somebody who hasnt seen the cartoon either, that people will spoil the cartoon differences and say what is good and bad with the live action. As somebody who has nothing to compare too, I think it would get annoying to constantly see because people who havnt seen the cartoon have no basis to go off of.

The original isn't really a "kids' cartoon". Yeah, it's child-friendly, but it has a lot of adult themes. I'd say it's more of a family show.
