At the beginning of the first movie, after Maverick helps Cougar guide his plane in, the captain chews out Maverick for his reckless behavior, citing his track record of high speed passes over 2 control towers and 1 admiral's daughter. Goose asks Maverick "Penny Benjamin?" Mav's love interest this movie is that admiral's daughter Penny, so his relationship with her goes further back than his one with Charlie/Charlotte from the first film. Great easter egg from the first film.

I’ll admit, when I saw this for the first time I did not expect this to surpass the original. I was wrong. This was great. As for your reaction. Wow, likewise great. Absolutely loved it. We got to see the full range of your emotions here. No wonder you said you need a break after this. As for crying and showing emotion at the end. Trust me I was right there with you. You’re not the only one. But it was the flashbacks with Goose that really hit me, I was impressed you managed to contain it. I didn’t. And don’t apologise for showing emotion, it shows you were invested in the characters and the movie. And I love that from you. This truly was amazing. Thank You Magy.
