Wingman- Thank you so much for another fun reaction for Lucifer, Magy! I really enjoy this episode. I love seeing Lucifer and Amenadiel team up, albeit begrudgingly. I love their banter and Lucifer's tease about how he likes Amenadiel's robes, or dress as he calls it, better than the suit he picked out for himself. They definitely have a difficult relationship, but I suspect there's more there than meets the eye. Also... I love that this episode drives forward the two major storylines going on outside of a normal case that Chloe and Lucifer would normally work together to solve. As far as Chloe's storyline in regards to the Palmetto shooting... I really enjoy seeing her working out the mystery behind the night of the cop shooting she witnessed with Dan's help, and Lucifer's for as long as he's there to help her. I like that Dan is working with her to help her, while Lucifer is sadly too distracted with his own problems involving his wings, which I will come back to momentarily... First... I love the team up between Chloe, Lucifer, and Dan, especially in the beginning when Dan and Lucifer role play in order to help Chloe work out the events she witnessed and what she might have missed. I love Lucifer's humor and wit geared towards frustrating Dan such as when he asks for a gun, then a hammer. But I also love how Lucifer offers Chloe the best advice because he is truly genuine in wanting to help her. First... when Lucifer urges her to listen to her instincts and to investigate in spite of Dan and everyone trying to get her to drop the case. And second... as Lucifer offers her a different perspective when he reminds her that it would be foolish for the criminals to shoot Malcolm if Malcolm really was dirty and working with them. Brilliant!! Lucifer may not have been there for Chloe as much as he normally is and he might have been a bit selfish because he's so focused on his own troubles, but I can absolutely understand Lucifer's urgency to find his wings, especially because of cost of them being left out among humanity and the dangers they pose. And thankfully in the end... Chloe certainly does recognize that she should have been a bit more understanding towards him and his needs as well, which is why she returns to LUX to be there for him and to assure him they are still okay, and I'm so happy she does. I love it!! :) But later, Chloe and Dan continue to work without Lucifer, and discover that Malcolm's shooter managed to shoot him and the other two criminals before he disappeared through a hidden doorway, then follow the tunnel where they find a 999 key belonging to a cop they now suspect is just as dirty as Malcolm was. I really enjoy this storyline and the continuing mystery behind it. Now... I love, love, love Lucifer's storyline while he works to find his wings. I love how he must resort to asking Amenadiel for help once Chloe initially refuses to help him upon her being too busy with her own case, then is refused initially by his brother as well. Throughout the episode, both Chloe and Amenadiel wind up helping him, until eventually Lucifer comes face to face with the man whom acquired his wings on his own. At the auction, in the moment that the antiquities dealer reveals the wings... I absolutely love the immediate look of longing and hear the heaviness of his breathing upon seeing what he believes are his wings again since they had been stolen, and much longer given that Lucifer had Maze cut them off five years earlier when Lucifer says he had made the decision to remain on Earth and had them locked away for safekeeping. It's amazing how we are able to really feel Lucifer's desperate need to take back what are his. Kudos to Tom Ellis and his tremendous talent for acting. I love this confrontation between him and the fake antiquities seller. I love seeing the anger and despair in Lucifer's eyes upon him seeing his wings outstretched and displayed on the wall like a piece of art, or as Lucifer states... like a stag head. The shot of seeing Lucifer standing in front of his wings like they were coming out from his back momentarily is a gorgeous shot. I really love this image. And while we are meant to figure that Lucifer must have punished the corrupt antiquities seller in some way, we don't actually see him do so. However, the seller had pleaded with Lucifer not to take his wings away from him because he's so drawn to the divinity within them, which has a very profound effect on him just as his wings had on the biker from the last episode... Favorite Son. But, in the end we see Lucifer had taken them back anyways once we see him sitting on the beach overlooking the ocean, with his wings lying in the sand behind him just as Amenadiel reappears once again. So, it's possible that taking them back was punishment enough, especially since the seller told Lucifer that he couldn't live without them. It's a pretty good assumption that perhaps Lucifer left the seller alone upon taking his wings back, and that the seller maybe committed suicide just as the biker had done upon catching his own glimpse of Lucifer's wings as well only for them to be ripped away from him. Or... maybe Lucifer called the police to have the antiquities dealer arrested for selling illegal goods. Either way... I'm sure the guy got his just desserts. And then... Amenadiel urges Lucifer to allow his wings to become a part of him again so he can fly himself back down to Hell where everyone claims Lucifer belongs. However, Lucifer has come to realization by the end of this episode that he had saved his wings initially so he could return to Hell if doing so became necessary, but instead, Lucifer learns through his experiences with seeking his wings back and Amenadiel's pushes, and upon learning that Amenadiel was responsible for his wings being stolen in the first place, that his wings are a part of his past, and that he isn't the same man any longer. I really love your insights in regards to this same idea. His wings are most certainly a relic from his past, and he cannot fully move on with his new life until he fully lets go of all that made him who he was before now. And Lucifer really doesn't ever want to go back to Hell for any reason since he has grown to truly love Los Angeles, and that now he no longer needs his wings for a contingency plan. So, Lucifer burns his wings in order to tick off both Amenadiel and especially their father (God) that much more just as he's been doing for a long time even before God cast him out of Heaven. Unfortunately, Lucifer pushes Amenadiel too far, and his brother loses it when he suddenly attacks Lucifer, hitting him over and over while Lucifer urges him to keep hitting him until Amenadiel becomes a fallen angel just like him. An ultimate slap to the face for any angel, which makes Amenadiel finally stop. Now... while Lucifer shows a seething anger towards Amenadiel, as well as towards God especially, I feel that there's so much more behind his anger. And it's more pain than anything else. I feel that Lucifer feels a deep sense loathing towards himself that not even he really understands, as we've now seen how much it pains him that his father, as well as his brother both see him as this all powerful evil just like the entire world does. I sense that a part of Lucifer feels he deserves to be beaten, which is why he doesn't try to fight back against Amenadiel even to defend himself. Instead, he simply keeps on taking the hits and keeps asking for more. Usually people who urge someone else to keep hurting them shows they have some kind of sense of hatred towards themselves, and it's so, so sad. This is what I love so much about Lucifer because he is so complex and while he wears a mask of confidence, conceit, and selfishness... there is definitely so much more within him that he tries so hard to keep hidden from everyone. So that no one will ever see him as weak so that they won't be able to use his weaknesses against him anymore than others have already done. Lucifer doesn't lie, to anyone but himself, which is why even he doesn't understand why he feels as he does. But we as viewers can certainly see what Lucifer strives to keep hidden from everyone especially from Chloe because he cares about her and her feelings towards him more than he's ever cared about any one human's feelings towards him before. And I just absolutely love the emotions we see from our characters throughout the major storylines, whether their emotions are explored or not. Also... I love the sudden sense of fear we see in Lucifer's eyes in the moment Amenadiel brings to his attention the fact that should someone kill him upon him now appearing to have become mortal, it would mean he would be sent back to Hell as well. Which means that Amenadiel no longer has to convince Lucifer to return to Hell of his own volition, but that he just has to wait for someone else to send him back to Hell for him, simply by shooting or killing him in some other way. And Lucifer is clearly shaken by his brother's threat. But to back up a little... I also love how Lucifer uses his coin he's always seen magically twirling in order to get him and Amenadiel into the auction. This coin isn't yet explained other than Lucifer simply calling it the Devil's coin, but it will be. For now, we just know that it's important to Lucifer. As for Maze's possible involvement... we know that she's spoken to Amenadiel about Dr. Linda Martin, but we don't know whether or not she's the one who told Amenadiel where Lucifer's wings were in the first place. Where Lucifer had kept them hidden within his storage container we saw within Favorite Son, I mean. I suspect she might have, as this end moment with her seen holding one of Lucifer's wings' feathers possibly indicates. And we know that she wants Lucifer to return to Hell as much as Amenadiel wants for him to as well. However, it's also possible that Amenadiel just knew where Lucifer had been storing his wings because he's been watching over Lucifer in order to try to learn how he might be able to finally get Lucifer to return to Hell. Or... it's possible that he knew where to find the wings because they possess divinity, and as an angel, he is able to sense the wings like these two angels can sense one another like we saw Lucifer sense Amenadiel hiding in the shadows at the auction. But these are just my guesses. I don't know for sure. However, I can't help but suspect Maze is also behind the wings' theft by telling Amenadiel where he could find them, just like she had told him about Linda. Because Maze is most certainly jealous of Chloe, and angry with Lucifer for wanting so desperately to remain on Earth instead of returning to Hell where she believes they both belong. And given that she is a demon... it makes complete sense for her character. Then... in the very end, Amenadiel is seen reviving Malcolm from the dead for unknown reasons, which is definitely intriguing. And as we know... Amenadiel threatened to send Lucifer back to Hell in any way possible. The question is whether or not his motive to bring Malcolm back is for this reason, or for another? And lastly, as for why Amenadiel acts as he does and why he always appears ready to pick a fight... He's egotistical, just like Lucifer calls him out on more than once throughout this episode. If you think about what you might have learned about angels from a number of stories, movies, or other shows that show angels as being warriors... this is why. Amenadiel is a warrior of Heaven. He's definitely not the kind of angel we see from shows like Touched By an Angel, just as Lucifer isn't the typical Devil you would expect to see him as either. And I absolutely love them just as they are!! Overall... this is a great episode! I love seeing the rivalry between brothers heighten, and I love learning more of the major storylines throughout the season. So thank you once again for your reactions, my friend!! I am so, so happy you're enjoying this show more and more with every episode!!!! I can't wait for more!!! Until then...
