To start, no I have not read the LN. These are things I personally think we are suppose to understand from this episode, they seem so obviously there being extremely noticeable. This is such a great episode. From what I understood, the witches are trying to tell Subaru this; 1) to love himself and put himself first because he deserves to be happy with everyone else that he saves. 2) Stop using the return by death so much. Satella gave it to him so he wouldn’t die BUT not to just have an excuse to die. It is a last resort type of option. 3) Stop trying to do everything himself. They can all see all the people he has that would fully support Subaru to get to the future he wants but Subaru is too fucking STUPID and BLIND to realize he has so much help around him. Now on the other hand, Roswaal is trying to tell him the opposite. Roswaal is trying to tell Subaru that he should put the person he loves first and he should do ANYTHING it takes for that person, even if it means he dies for her. Roswaal sees Subaru’s love of Emilia the same as his own love for Echidna(which it is very much the same). However, as much as Subaru loves Emilia, he wishes to save more than just Emilia. Subaru wants to save everyone without sacrifices(very selfish and greedy that I personally think will end up hurting him in the end, more than it has already hurt him). Subaru is just so stubborn, hard-headed, stupid, greedy, selfish(yes selfish. He says he is doing everything for others but it’s only to fulfill his own hero complex). Also, Satella did say that subaru saved her multiple times 👀 im not a light novel reader so idk if that’s really Emilia but my suspicions be telling me it might be her 👀 Satella has been saved multiple times by Subaru, she has loved him for a very long time, She knows Subaru is always sacrificing himself and wanting to do thing alone, She knows Subaru lacks self love and wants him to love himself more. She basically knows everything Emilia would about Subaru if she were from an alternate future 👀👀👀👀 sus

Morale of the story, don't try to do everything alone. We humans weren't build to handle everything alone and Subaru was constantly trying to do everything alone. Part 2 you guys will enjoy a lot as it will give you finally answers a lot to this Sanctuary arc. PS. Just small prelude hint try remember what happened in "Memory Snow" OVA =)

Calling Subaru stupid because he does things alone isn’t fair. Subaru doesn’t seem himself as being worthy of other people loving him. His mom alludes to this when Subaru jokes, “I’m too easy on myself and hard on others already.” and she says “If that was true, my job would’ve been a lot easier.” He doesn’t see any value in himself other than his Return by Death ability. He doesn’t believe anyone would love him or care about him without it. He feels inferior to every single person he meets, and it is only exacerbated in the fantasy world with knights and magic. But he refuses to see that people do actually care for him, because he does in fact have positive attributes. No one knows about his return by death ability, save for Roswaal, yet the people around him still care for him and mourn when he dies and want to prevent it.

No he isnt stupid because of that lol(at least not entirely) I said stupid and blind, that’s the blind part. He is blind, he can’t see how much people care for him even when they demonstrate it with actions and kind words(this is the little bit of stupid in this part). The stupid mostly comes from his actions and some things he says at times. As well as some plans he be coming up with at times. His actions at the royal selection meeting thing was stupendously stupid of him 🤦‍♂️ on my first watch, second watch and every watch I cant help but just be like “fs Subaru stop 🤦‍♂️” I felt so bad for Julius because he did try to help (although he went a little overboard) and I felt such embarrassment for Emilia. Subaru isnt a bad kid, I dont hate him he just needs to open his eyes up some more and think a little harder sometimes before he does things. Have a more open mind on possibilities that include other people around him. Even if they do hate him, at least he would have tried to get help and not do it alone. Him asking for crusch was 👌🔥 I honestly thought he was going to start asking other for more help since then, but here he is trying to do it alone again

I mean if he was Johan IQ, we wouldnt exactly have much of a story. And Subaru's flaws is what makes him a great character. Not just being weak but also prideful and having such a hero's complex. Rare to have a character who has such "normal" flaws. Its not even anything special. His flaws arent evil nor are they extravagant like hes a sociopath or something. His flaws are so basic and very much down to earth. And him confronting those flaws is a sign of a well written character. And regardless of growth he receives, there are times where he simply gets backed into a corner. Hes not smart and us having the objective view of the story can easily say "Oh yeah, I woulda done this or that" but in the end, theres no telling where our mind would be in his shoes. Personally, Im dipping out of that country after the first few deaths. And buying extra extra cologne to cover that stench up cuz that shit is bad news.

I am also not a light novel reader. I see a parallel between how Satella speaks to Subaru and how Subaru spoke to Emilia. Remember their first fight and Subaru said "you've saved me in ways you don't even know" (referring to how she saved him in a past loop) but he couldn't explain more? I think it's quite possible that Satella was saved by Subaru in a past life too...except the past life is really one based on reincarnation and not looping. I think Subaru possibly is the reincarnation of someone Satella knew 400 years ago who saved her. I think it may even be a male character we see in the new few episodes that I won't name now. Her being from an alternate future like you said sounds plausible too. Also, I think this episode could have been better...I've read comments about how Subaru asked Satella more questions in the LN (not sure if that's true). I wish he'd ask more in the anime. He kind of did ask but wished he'd try more specific questions. Another thing: I feel like Subaru hasn't exactly been throwing his life away. I feel like he's mainly left it as a last resort already (but maybe I haven't thought hard enough about that). It's not his fault that outlandish, surprise kills keep happening (like bunnies and guts loving assassins he can't defend against).

Your two comments were on the Re:Zero post instead, unfortunately.

I think in the anime he’s only committed suicide once or twice. The only ones I can think of is when he jumped off a cliff cause he wanted to save Rem I think? And another time was when he killed himself with some sort of sharp object when he saw Rem “dead” In those timelines he didnt NEED to kill himself. I think they want him to be happy with who he saves instead of killing himself for every single individual person he meets. There might be more suicides i cant remember in the anime or maybe more in the LN but not sure. I have heard the anime leaves out several things from the light novel, up to even entire timelines possibly even idk

This for Danny: Subaru is definitely a well written character. Like I said I dont hate him, it’s just some of his actions are too extremely stupid sometimes. Like there is no way someone is dumb enough to walk into a (basically presidential election) like he did, or even have a grudge toward someone who was trying to help him understand how things work. Also even if he was smart there would most definitely still be a story, specially because even if he was smart he would still think he has to do things alone so he would still have that flaw. Several(not all) smart people do tend to think they have to do everything themselves. Everybody has a story to tell. Whether it’s geniuses or even the dumbest of dumb people. Subaru is definitely not an absolute idiot LUCKILY. He does need to be a little smarter about things he does and some plans he comes up with.
