Oh, and: Someone might have pointed it out already, but I think the weird costumes thing probably was a reference to the War of Jenkin's Ear (of which I know nothing except that it has a really weird name that somehow stuck with me).

This is why I came here too. The war was over disputed land claims that the colony founding of the colony of Georgia made an issue as well as maritime trading rights in the Caribbean and was fought between Spain and England. The removal of captain Jenkins ear as punishment by a Spaniard for piracy or privateering was the inspiration for naming the war
