Like the rest of the Monogatari characters, Nadeko's character utilizes an otaku culture personality trope called Dandere. Dandere personalities are typically that of a normal person who won't speak unless spoken to or asked, avoiding conversation due to shyness unless necessary, often with some difficulty or embarrassment, and only being more open or emotional with close people. Perhaps that's why you didn't like the character; the Dandere trope isn't usually appealing to everyone, especially if they don't have much screen time. And yes, Nadeko refers to herself in the third person—I'm glad you noticed! Unfortunately, it wasn't taken into account in the subtitles, but that detail is important for her character because, as you may have seen in episode 4, Nadeko has a strange disconnect from what she conceptualizes as "herself." What NisiOisin (the author of Monogatari) does is twist all these otaku culture tropes. The tsundere who has a genuine reason behind her tsundere behavior, the "perfect" class president who is stressed to the brim trying to maintain that status, and the Dandere who takes a 180-degree turn and becomes a yandere.
