By the end of the 21st century, humanity is becoming desperate. Decades of heatwaves and droughts have led to unusually  poor harvests, while the warming oceans yield fewer fish each year. In the tropical zones, millions suffer from famine and resource wars have made millions more flee to the north. As things quickly get worse, in an act of desperation, the world's governments decide to enact an emergency plan...
It is far from certain that a grim scenario like this will play out. But the failure of world leaders  to effectively address climate change, makes it far from impossible.  So in the near future it might become necessary to try something radical to slow down rapid climate change: Geoengineering. Interventions so massive in scale that they might undo centuries of human behavior. Or make everything much worse. What is geoengineering, is it really an option and what if it goes wrong?

Very well done as always! I would be curious in the CO2 Capture video, is there a way to build a simple CO2 capture device at home, or if it’s significantly better to create a larger device for your town/city/business? Is there a quiet way to efficiently capture CO2 (other than plants and trees)? Or is it loud due to the use of fans?

Amazing as always! Keep up the great information. We need to have these conversations now and extend our outlook beyond the quarterly report. Hopefully we won't have to implement such a drastic solution as Geoengineering if we can learn to implement the lifestyle changes now.

Woohoo! Chemtrails to the rescue!

Did this video exist in the past already or do I have a déjà vu? 🤔

Tony Hammitt

Let's just suck up 1% or so of the atmosphere and store it somewhere cold, like in big balloons under the ocean. Less air means less greenhouse effect. We could use wind (kite) power to run the pumps directly. At enough pressure, we could siphon off the CO2 as a liquid, then take it somewhere cold enough to keep it as a solid, like Antarctica. If we need it again for something, we can take it out of the freezer. Meanwhile, "painting" the deserts white could reflect more sunlight and reduce the amount of heating from the sun.

ANTIcarrot

It is wholly misleading of this video to imply there will be no technological progress over the next 80 years. Which it does at the start when it dismisses space based solutions as impractical. Not just now, but in 80 years time as well. If you want to talk about a given solution, fine, but you can do it without spreading misinformation. I think maybe the script writers may need to take one of those Brilliant courses they keep shilling for. It might help avoid such errors in the future.

But you can't invent stuff as fast as we would need it to stop climate change. Of course there will be progress, but we shouldn't count on it, because we need to act fast.

ANTIcarrot

"But you can't invent stuff as fast as we would need it to stop climate change." We don't need to? We have most of the tools already. The challenge isn't invention. The challenge is deployment. That means getting around the stupidity of climate change denialism. But is also means getting around the stupidity of dismissing workable solutions because they sound silly. This video gives every impression of revelling on the latter.

They're saying what will happen if we do nothing, it's a potential future, not the only one. No need to be so aggressive in the comments of an educational video...

Great video, I showed this to my dad who is an atmospheric scientist working at NOAA. This is exactly the kind of stuff he studies and he said it is extremely well done and very accurate. Great job.

This was a really good video!
