King just making everyone blush, oh gosh.

Whew, do we have a story to tell for this post. So we had to go to the pet store to pick up some replacement toys for our kitten Bart. Just right over where Bart's toys are, there were a bunch of kittens up for adoption. And there he was... a tiny, four-month-old black kitten with only one eye. He was precious. He was perfect. But Leslie and I had to deliberate. We went home and discussed. Was it too soon after Pickle? Would Bart be okay with a new kitten? Are we ready? We decided to sleep on it... but when we woke up, that one-eyed kitten just wouldn't leave our head. We did more research, and apparently black cats get adopted way less, and he's already been there for weeks. Him also only having one working eye might also further deter people from adopting him. We ultimately left it to fate - If he was still there when we went back, then we'll adopt him.

We adopted him. Say hello to Nicola aka Nico, Bart's new cousin. He is UNBELIEVABLY affectionate. Dude's full of purrs, constantly rubbing on us and playing with us. He's already curled up on my lap and fell asleep. He's just such a little sweetheart. We're trying to take it slow and get him acclimated, so him and Bart haven't been formally introduced yet. Nico's loving it already here though, just running around the house and playing with everything. Just the most precious little thing. We love him to death.

Now imagine our surprise when we get a call from the animal shelter today asking us to bring him back.

APPARENTLY, despite there being no other pet applications there when we were filling ours out and us eyeing this cat for two days (and him being there for weeks), the pet shelter was supposed to give Nico to someone else. They called Leslie's number and told us how they have a kid crying now because we took the cat, and if we were really THAT attached to him after only a few hours.

The AUDACITY.

We told them the cat's already in our house getting acclimated, and politely declined. Sorry kid, but you're not going to give a cat a better life than two work-at-home artists. I think after everything that's transpired these last couple months, we've earned the right to be selfish this once. Like, Nico loves it here and loves us already, it would just be more stressful for him to take him back out and go through all that shit again. Should've got him sooner! Should've put the money down! Should've filled out some damn paperwork! Not our problem! Your problem!

But yes, Nico is sound asleep after a fun day of playing. Tomorrow, we'll introduce him and Bart. They're both extremely sociable cats, so I think they're going to get along just fine.

See you on Friday!

Kids are kids. They will cry over ANYTHING. They will cry the same over that cat as they would by not getting a popsicle before dinner. Show the kid a new cat and the one you have will be forgotten. It's the store's fault, not yours. An immature child makes a horrible pet owner and you two will be far better owners for that cat. You two enjoy your awesome new fur baby! ❤️

Nico is adorable. Do shelters do things like that? Surely if there was a kid interested, there'd be a note or something somewhere? Not just a random call out of the blue "btw that precious darling who's settling in that you've just become attached to, bring him back cos someone else wants him" 🙄 sucks for the kid (ofc assuming they're sincere about there being one) but that seems like the Shelter's mistake. ----------------- I think this guy just wants a show off Steg and Suria so he can join everyone else in sleeping with their co-workers 😆 That's after he's done making Steg feel cute, flattered and blushy
