All right, NOW I'll talk a bit more about The King, aka Apollo T. Williams. We actually came up with The King's entire concept before Elizabeth ever even had a personality! We've known for a long time that we wanted to work this character into the story as another one of the Legendary music icons like Redd Rider or Melody Faire, but we were never quite sure how. He's gone through more than a few iterations as well, including a Dark Souls-inspired version where he was literally a 20 ft tall man in a giant throne! No, I'm not exaggerating. Yes, he would have still had the sunglasses and hair.

He's been mentioned a few times throughout the comic and even in some promotional material, and obviously Billy Rocket draws a lot inspiration from him. Speaking of inspirations, you can probably guess The King's biggest source of inspiration in his design. Truthfully speaking though, he actually pulls from several more, and you'll see he's got a bit more going on under that handsome surface. He's a bit of a culmination of a lot of character design tropes that Leslie and I absolutely just fucking love, all mixed up into one glimmering package. Leslie also just fucking nailed the design of him, god DAMN.
