I'm gonna say something that is probably blasphematory: The 1976's version is my favorite King Kong movie. It is in no way the best, nor is it the most impressive. But it is the one I grew up with. It is entertaining as hell. It doesn't waste too much time... And it is strangely horny. 

Not that I'd blame the big guy. Jessica Lange was absolutely stunning in it!

PS: Also, the ending is absolutely terrible; with a traumatized Dwan left, for some unspoken reason, to the vultures and the press by the hero. And that line " Did you ever meet anyone before whose life was saved by "Deep Throat"?" is hilarious.

I agree, I haven’t seen it in decades but the original is indeed the best. And hey, it did have pathos. And the genius of Ray Harryhausen if I remember correctly.

(Sorry if there a double post here... not sure if my first post worked of not... I don't see it anyway) That is often said, but untrue. The stop motion animators for the RKO's version where Willis H. O'Brien and his assistant, Buzz Gibson. Ray Harryhausen later worked for O'brien and became his "protégé" but never worked on King Kong.
