That's the general feel I've been getting from Jacob's reactions to Frieren from the past couple of months, as well as other reactions in the last couple of years. Caleb will react positively to something, to which Jacob will steer the conversation in a more negative direction while pulling from preconceived notions or unfounded theories.

Caleb I think your earlier theory about Ubel's magic has some ground. She doesn't know all the complicated spells that went into making her proctor's cloak impenetrable. I think that, along with the memory/emotional significance of hearing fabric being snipped, contributes to her abilities.
