Travel has completely changed as I’ve become a big boy.

I haven’t flown in over 70 lbs, but when I was smaller I still had trouble with my width on the Southwest seats. Now, I’m so plump I think my hips couldn’t even fit in the seat with the armrests down. The thought of those miles-long walks at the airport, I dread that. Also being restricted in the plane for any duration with that tiny bathroom and limited snack options, I’d rather not.

I pretty much drive everywhere in the US now. I have a huge F-150 that is very comfortable for a hefty guy like me. I’ve gotten so good at driving long distances that I rarely even have to stop, and just fill up at drive thru’s on the way. I probably drink about a gallon of soda a day if I’m confined to my vehicle. Gives me a lot of empty bottles I can use to make even better time on the road.

Booking hotels is different. I have to request accessible rooms that have grab bars, and a seat in the shower. The shower handle attachment being there is completely necessary now and I need it to get clean. It’s nice to be able to plop a seat down in the shower and soap up without my dang feet and calves killing me. Usually the accessible rooms are located in a more convenient spot with less steps, though sometimes that’s not the case. I’ve had tiny “accessible” rooms with the smallest shower I can’t even turn around in, or rooms that are way at the end of the floor, leaving me winded when I finally get to the room.

There’s no better feeling for me than being a big boy on the open road. Filling my truck seat like water, drinking soda and eating burgers to my hearts content. Flying is going to be a challenging endeavor going forward.
