LOOK

LOOOOOOOOOOOK

A while ago I've found a neat plugin for making trees (ATree3D), and I haven't really sat down to try to work it out well enough, until a few days ago. The first time I used it was for that Cause and Effect piece. There was literally one small tree in it, and it wasn't a particularly great one. XD Anyway! A few days ago I got an idea for a piece that will need a few very realistic trees, so I decided to give ATree3D another try. I succeeded in figuring it out completely. C:

Then I figured "hey, Anza has unbelievably shitty trees that have been bothering me since the beginning - why not fix that?" The image above is the result. 80% realistic acacia trees! :D Just three for now, but I'll make maybe two or three more variations. The only downside is that ATree3D produces rather expensive trees. The old trees in Anza had 300-500 polys each (haha ha hahaha haaaaaa). The new acacias I try to keep within 200,000-400,000 each. ._. This also means they're almost 1000 times better than the old ones. XD

I will additionally improve the bushes, grass, and maybe cacti, too.

So, while this isn't a very big and exciting thing, on its own it's really nice. And the plugin's instability aside, making trees is very relaxing.

Fun fact: It took me probably around 12 hours to perfect the acacia base setup, and each variation takes up to half an hour of tweaking to make.

P.S. Pardon this particularly long silence; I've been extremely absorbed by several things, one of which is a very nice piece made with 4 variations that I will finish in a day or two. Or three. SOON. Very tired.

Not exciting? Lol Of course this is exciting! Good job finally getting to this. Nature is a luxury to see done well. I might be the only one excited about this but it will improve the atmosphere of your pieces by ∞!!

It's just great news that's nothing big on its own I guess. A simple addition, but it will definitely help to sell the realism. C: Glad you're excited about it tho, thanks!

I dunno, Tchai - this feels bigger than you make it out to be. Whenever I link your DeviantArt profile, the major feedback I get is that your super-detailed characters contrast with your backgrounds; especially the. But this is a major step forward, important or not, and it will only help to flesh out Anza (and other settings) as realistic and complex worlds in their own right. Amazing work, as ever!

Glad you think so, thank you! :D Fun fact: I've actually improved the trees a little since I posted this. C:

Oooo... this is going to be amazing! That is a massive improvement. To think that Anza is going to get even more beautiful is hard to believe, but will be breathtaking once out. :)

I've been working on replacing the foliage today. So far the base scene, which was around 700,000 polys, has become a scene that's 7,5 million polys thanks to the new trees and bushes. XD Now I just need to do something about the grass. Either way, the new trees changed the feel a lot. It's a much more convincing world already. C:
