I think I know what to do now.

A Randochi mentioned in a comment:

"I would be more comfortable with you keeping these characters as they are and you creating an entirely new group of furred characters to the mix. The original characters are like the x-men of the group. The special furless group."

The idea of leaving existing characters furless, but making new ones with fur has been mentioned a couple of times, and it's a good one, but it also introduces inconsistencies which I don't like. Like why have these lost their fur through evolution, but not the others? But you know what? I'll ignore that one. The bit of the above comment which I made in bold is the key here. While it wouldn't be an official tidbit, it's good enough to put my mind at ease. XD

I will also consider adding fur to Hjalta, and only Hjalta. She's relatively new; I can live with that kind of change, but I'm not even sure if any fur will ever happen. Because technical limits. Again. XD I do wonder how other 3D artists do proper fur without needing ridiculous amounts of RAM, and without resorting to render farm services.

Oh well.

But yeah, that closes the subject of fur. Old characters stay furless, maybe except for Hjalta, and new ones will have fur, if feasible.

There.

The Nubus

Well es far as I remember is the lack of fur on Chinese Crested a gene defect that may or may not transfer to the next generation. You could reunite Jinjing-Yu with her fluffy twin Sister :) I also think you should not change existing characters:)

*exhales* I was a little nervous with that shout there. TLDR... What if you made your furred characters idea based off climate evolution and not human evolution. Your current group live in a dry place and don't need hair. Your new group lives in a cold climate and would need hair. You're quite smart and you even say on the front page that your other passion is science. I don't know enough about genetics but I remember Charles Darwin from school. Think about your furred characters didn't adapt like humans. I want to reference Charles Darwin's Galapagos Island research. There were a species of finches that were drastically different than those of the mainland's. They had adapted differently based off of an important food source on the island. Their beaks varied in sizes. Because it was an island natural selection occurred. Brainstorm (grain of salt idea): Imagine your new furred characters had to withstand harder climates and therefore they needed extra fur for thermal protection. Your current characters live in a much different climate. Adreea and Jinjing-Yu live in a tropical Hawaiian-like climate. While Kebibi and Uzuri live in an arid dry desert-like-African climate. If they adapted like humans they would have adapted more naturally because they wouldn't have needed fur to survive. Kebibi and Uzuri live in a more tribal lifestyle. Imagine a tribal Himalayan lifestyle, but have fur, and live in a much colder climate, where they were artificially granted more royal stature than the one who had less fur. The less furred beings would have gradually been phased out. The way this would pan out as keeping fur would be that the group didn't interact with any other species outside their group and eventually stayed furred. Similar to skin colors of more dry geographical locations. I guarantee that creative brain of yours can fathom a much more scientific and meaningful mutation for your naked species that could differ from the characters with fur. So it would break up the "they evolved like humans" idea to a climate centric idea..

You know, that's not a bad idea. ;v; Powderpuff cresties are best floofs. ;U; Also wouldn't be as much work as making a new character from scratch! Holy crap!!!!!!!!! Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOLY CRAP Thank for the suggestion! I think I'll be planning that! :D

That does make a lot of sense. In fact, I thought about that for Kebibi and Uzuri; like even if Hjalta got fur, Anza characters still wouldn't need it, because desert. It doesn't translate well to some OTHER characters I'm working on, though. But hey - evolution is unpredictable. C: Also look at what The Nubus said here. LOOK. THAT is an excellent idea. ;A;
