They told her she can't expect the world to do whatever she pleases. But she knew better.

Gosh, I've definitely outdone myself. ;v; The vision-execution ratio is about 90%, and that is just the best feeling ever. It happens so rarely tho. ;a; I guess I should also mention that this piece probably wouldn't happen at all (or at least would not be as pretty) without the awesome support I'm getting from you lovely people!

This piece has:

 • around 250,000 individual hairs and grass blades
 • three densely-tessellated and displaced objects (one of which is insanely tessellated)
 • a particularly computationally-demanding shader on the majority of the image (ocean)

Took 11 GB of RAM at rendertime, and rendered for 2 hours, 14 minutes, 28 seconds.

Old workstation would nope out as soon as it tried loading that into memory, because 8 GB of ram, only 4-5 of which was available for rendering. And it would take about 4 hours to render. And it wouldn't handle this kind of hair/grass at all, so that would look much worse too. Progress is soooo goooood.

Enjoy! :D

This might be one of the most gorgeous pieces you've ever done. I am obsessed with this. Such an interesting place. Is it based on anything?

I've been staring at this for half an hour now haha, How do you do this? it's amazing!

"Around 250,000 individual hairs and grass blades" !!! I don't even ... that's ridiculous. You really went crazy with the new tools you've made. I'm very impressed by the overall appearance of this landscape. I would like to see more like this. You need to keep Hjalta here and do a series of images. Because this is a beautiful place that needs to be explored further. The one thing that pops out is the water splash on the rocks. Maybe they're particles? I don't know what they are, but when I see them they just stand out a little too much. Almost like they're smudges. I love waterscapes and beaches and this! You should keep pushing this computer because so far its outstanding stuff!

To be honest, 250,000 isn't THAT much yet! Did a test with 1.2 million hairs (used as grass) - THAT was a lot, and it worked without a hiccup. C: Also took like 9 gb of RAM at low-res. XD BUT HEY The splashes are actually painted in during post. That's probably why they stand out a bit, but I did the best I could. For what it is, I'd say it looks decent. In hindsight, I guess I could've lowered the opacity... didn't think about that. XD Thank you very much! :D

The magic of 3D! C: Well, to be fair, I've been working on this for like two weeks or more, SO I GUESS THAT'S WHY IT LOOKS GOOD Many thanks! :D

Woohooo! I did try. C: I think it may be based on something, but mostly it literally just popped into my head one day and I liked it. And when it popped in, I'm pretty sure my brain was subconsciously thinking about this. I painted it years ago, and I still like the idea. So I guess it has now been reborn or something. Thank you! :D
