So a friend of mine sent me this picture probably like 2 years ago, and today I was going through my idea dump folder and I was like hey, that's nice - so there we go. Decided to make it with Jinjing-Yu.

At first I didn't think I could tackle it, because I wasn't sure if I'll be able to translate this quadruped pose to a hominid body. XD Then I also didn't feel like making a chair. ._.

But then my brain decided to not be an asshole for once, and it gave me a nice idea for a chair that looks lovely, and isn't a pain in the ass to make! So that's one less problem. I simply decided to go with the idea and wing the pose.

NOTE: I wasn't really making any progress images, nor did I save any unfinished things, so I'll improvise the first two pictures.

So I took a sphere and masked it from the side like so:

Then I extracted the masked area, which gave me something like this:

Some smoothing and adjustments later, as well as some procedural modeling, I ended up with this:

Pretty much ready, but it also needed a cushion. Made that by extracting the bottom part of the chair's inner surface, and then smoothing, pushing and pulling it into shape. And there we have it:

It also needs legs, but that's something I'll add later, during scene setup. Maybe I'll also add some sewing details to the cushion.

Now, we also need a Jinjing-Yu to awkwardly flop onto this thing, yes?

I always start with the expression, because most of the time I know exactly what I will be making. And also because making expressions on a character in an asymmetrical pose is not fun lol. So here we have the expression (pardon the lack of hair; adding that is like one of the last things):

"smol blep"
- Jinjing-Yu

Then comes the basic posing. This takes the longest in the sketch stage. I think I spent about 2-3 hours getting the basic pose more or less right. I most often start with posing the torso and legs, then head, then arms and hands. Here's what I have so far:

NOTE: I didn't pose the arms or tail yet. XD

As you can see, the nipples are horribly deformed; I didn't get a chance to fix them yet, but it's a normal thing to happen when posing torsos. The whole body probably needs some fixes, still, as this is a very difficult pose. This is also more or less the final angle. I usually work on poses to make them look good from any angle (this makes them more believable and natural), but I might skip that part for this piece because holy shit

I'd say the first stage is about 60% done.

I'll try to make regular updates for this piece, but once I finish it, I won't post it until next month, because I REALLY need a backlog.

But yes, I hope this stuff is somewhat interesting to see!

Enjoy! :D

haha, pets can be so silly. xD thanks for showing your process, very intersting. Also can't wait for the finished picture!

This is fascinating! Is astonishing watching you transform a sphere into a full picture!

Yes this is extremely interesting to see. "Tchai does tutorials part 1." I am also very interested in the deformation of the belly. On an old photo of yours that was posted to e621, some time ago, someone asked "Wonder how much time [tchai] spent weighting this?" (refering to <a href="https://e621.net/post/show/776131/2015-anthro-anus-book-breasts-canine-chinese_crest" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">"Now how do I get unstuck..." October 2015 Patreon Commission</a>) Which I'm not familiar with the terminology. But I have a feeling it has something to do with the realistic stomach muscles and all that. Im very interested in that part of the process. Cause it involves a lot of squish. ^-^

Well, behind the scenes didn't take long at all! I would love to see how to get your model to play ball in some of those adjustments too. I never got terribly far, but the slightest modification would seem to mess me up as I moved stuff around and I never really got the hang of "fixing" it, as you put it.

i think that deformation on his belly is his d!ck....

Yeah, it took maybe like 30-40 minutes to make this post. Not bad. And I'd need more information to really give any tips. I mean there are many types of models, and some require different handling than others. But the most important thing is to always plan your model. You need to know exactly what you're making, how you're making it, and what features it will have. Preferably have references too. Then you'll avoid messing things up during modifications.

The sphere was just used to make the chair. If I had to sculpt entire characters for every piece, I'd rather be a 2D artist. XD

Yeah, I love this photo. XD Also glad you enjoyed! I'm doing some more work on it today; gonna post an update later!

XD Her cranium is way too big tho; kinda thinking about updating that. But then there are many other things I'd have to update. ._. Glad you enjoyed!
