Update notes

  • Added panning (only as a block modulation option currently)
  • Removed the "enable bias" item from effect knob context menu because that's not implemented yet.
  • Uniformity is now a percentage instead of ranging from 0.0 to 1.0 (may break existing save files)

Some answers to feedback

  • Where is sample data stored? When you save a project, the samples are converted to FLAC and stored inside the project file. The *.blkhd file is actually a renamed zip file so you can open it up and extract the samples if you want.
  • Can stereo channels be manipulated independently? No, I didn't get to this yet. This problem requires a lot of time and thought and I have a lot of different ideas in my head about how the UI should work.
  • My screen is really big and the font is too small! Sorry! This is definitely a problem. I will investigate adding some larger fonts as an option, or switching to an automatically scaling font. Unfortunately it's not a trivial problem to solve right now because some of the UI is built around having very specific pixel dimensions.

I also made a discord server

Here it is: https://discord.gg/EXxadd

Just gave it a test drive on a macbook pro running windows, works great! Love the aesthetic too.

Observations: - love the stripped back vibe dispensing with the usual UI clutter in "DAW's" - got confused when dropping a sample from the sample view onto the main window because after I dropped it, there was still a wave under my cursor ready to be dropped, took me a while to work out to press right click to get rid of that. - Lo-fi seems pretty strong with the bitcrush param - doing some funky things to my speakers (e.g. non audio) - seemed to stop my audio working until reboot - love the snap amount interaction - when alt-tabbing between programs sometimes the cursor got stuck lassoing a selection where I can't do any more clicking til restarting the app - that might be my laptop's trackpad drivers tho, Apple don't really care about supporting good windows experience. - maybe it would be good to keep the escape key as a way to always go back (i.e. get out of sample drop mode, get out of the shortcuts list, get out of focused sample details etc) - couldn't work out how to loop a section on the timeline, guess that's not a feature

- I will check what is going on with the bitcrush effect. it probably needs a DC filter. If I can't fix it I will remove it temporarily because i dont want to break peoples speakers. - I will also investigate the alt-tabbing thing. - and I agree with your escape key idea.

To create a looping region you can right click on a lane to create a "meta block", then enable looping on the meta block

Just be clear, the blockhead is a massive inspiration - it’s the first bit of music software I’ve seen that’s really trying to do something new in a grown up way - please don’t prioritise any of my feedback unless it lines up with your own plans! Really looking forward to watching this beast grow!! Best of luck

I haven't had any issues with the Lofi FX and I must say it's one of the best bitcrushers I've heard in a while!

colugomusic

It looks like it does currently produce a DC offset when sample rate is set to 0%, so i will try adding a DC blocker into the signal path

it's definitely the first new direction i've seen in DAWs in a while. something that will clearly grow while remaining quite unique!
