S&F Extra - April 2023 (Patreon)

It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I worked on last month.

Sven and Fluffy Reboot

For this recent story -- which mashes up Sven and Fluffy scenes with classic-era Sam and Fuzzy scenes -- I decided to play up the stylistic differences by going fully mixed media. The classic S&F art was all drawn "old school" on paper with brushpens, while the Sven and Fluffy scenes were all drawn on the iPad in Procreate in a deliberately childish and hyper-saturated style. Then I combined the two and lettered 'em in Photoshop!

Much like the Sven and Fluffy art, this comic was also drawn in Procreate! But this time, my goal was to see how closely I could match my usual drawing and inking style while using the program. As you'll see in the timelapse, I drew all the art itself in Procreate, but I added the panel borders and lettering afterwards in Photoshop.

Pet Portraits
Here's a trio of fun pet portraits that I drew at this year's Emerald City Comic Con! The cat is dressed as (and named after!) Amelia Earhart, while the two doggos are dressed as Captain Carter and Link, respectively.

This comic was also drawn using Procreate... but this time, I thought I'd try to combine my usual inking style with a looser, more painterly colouring style for the backgrounds and panel borders. (As Saucy Hippo backers will already know, I've been experimenting with a bunch of different art styles in this program over the last couple of months, as I learn what I do and don't like about using it!)

Noosehead Avatars
Last but not least... here is a full set of avatars for all 13 members of Noosehead, the S&F universe's most famous heavy metal band. I drew these to use in the recent fake magazine article that ran on my website. In the gallery above, you'll find individual images of all 13 avatars, just in case anyone wants to use 'em for anything!
