It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind-the-scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some animated GIFs of how some of them came together.  And down here, I'll provide some info about each one!

Bats on Bats off
This month's bonus comic was inspired by a recent bat-censored Cynthia pin-up I drew for the Saucy Hippo.  I thought it would be funny for Dev to point out that live bats are probably not allowed in the club, and from that idea grew this comic!

I have been having a lot of fun doing my "inktober" style pen-and-ink drawings this October, so I decided to draw this comic using literally the same method: black-heavy inks on 8.5x11 paper. (In this case, two sheets of it, which is why the comic is so tall.)

Mandrake
And on the complete opposite end of the spectrum, we have Mandrake! This comic, which I ran last week on my website, is one I collaborated on years ago with writer Kris Straub for an anthology. I drew this comic entirely digitally, which was very unusual for me at the time.

I wanted to use colour in a really particular way in this story. As you'll see in the making-of GIFS above, I tried to plan out my colour blocks right from the pencil thumbnail stage.

Kris writes his pages a lot denser than I usually do, which means more panels per page! So for most of this story, I decided to run with a very rigid 3x3 grid panel structure, ala Watchmen. I hoped the consistent 3x3 would create a predictable, comfortable rhythm... which I could then uncomfortably break during the frightening final sequence by switching to a hyper claustrophobic 4x4 grid.

Dev and Jess
Here's a cute little commission I'm working on right now of Dev and Jess! I'll share more when it's finished, but for now, I thought I'd give you all a preview of the pencils.

Zombie Jess
This Inktober-style pin-up was originally a little racier, but I wanted to make a sfw variant so I could share it with everyone! The version above is the variant I came up with first. But in the end, I decided to make a different sfw version that used fog rather than outfit changes. I've included that one in the gallery above, too!

October Inks
Last but not least, here's all the inked art I drew this October that I haven't already posted here! You'll find the full versions in the gallery above. From top to bottom, left to right, we've got:
-Samus (as she appears in Metroid Dread)
-Raven Beak (also from Metroid Dread)
-Metal Sonic and Sonic
-Squirrel Girl
-Anne (from Amphibia)
-The Knight and Hornet (from Hollow Knight)
-
The Nowhere King (from Centaur World)

It was really nice to spend some time working in pure black-and-white again. It's very comforting to me, to be honest! I think I'm going to try to spend more time working with ink on paper in the future.

Thanks, everyone!
