It's S&F Extra time! Here's a behind the scenes look at what I worked on last month.

In the gallery above, you'll find the final version of each piece, as well as some step-by-step animated process GIFs.  And own here, I'll provide some info about each piece!

Videogame Icons

As I mentioned in this month's Art Vote post, I drew this piece for a custom built arcade cabinet that an S&F reader is building. I'm going to be doing the art for the entire cabinet... I think it's going to be really cool!

But this piece is particularly interesting, because its the one that's going to be used for the marquee area at the top of the cabinet, above the screen. I made a colour version to share here, but this piece is actually going to be used in black-and-white.. because it is going to be laser-engraved into acrylic and illuminated with LEDs. (Like this example below!)

I think it is going to look REALLY cool.

Star Trek

Y'all saw an early verison of this piece last month, but here it is in it's final glory! The commissioner wanted a color original for this piece rather than a digital file, which is why I coloured this one with markers. I love drawing with markers but rarely get the chance to use them for big pieces like this one!

Ballistic Bambi

I drew this piece for Ballistic Bambi, a cosplayer I know who is just getting into twitch streaming. It's a mascot character for her channel, and had to be drawn simply enough to also function as a Twitch emote. As you'll see in the sketches in the gallery, I experimented with a couple of different levels of "cartooniness", as well as a lot of different styles of antlers. I also originally used a lighter colour scheme, but we ultimately adjusted it to match the darker purple colour she uses in her logos and twitch overlays.

Manga S&F

You may recall the original version of this piece, which I drew as a Patreon bonus piece long ago. This new B&W version was created for my next book.

Bunsen to the Future

Here's another fun piece of art I drew for Bunsen, the IRL dog star of a science-themed social media account. This piece casts Bunsen (and his new little sister Beaker) in a full on parody of the Back to the Future 2 poster.

I had a ton of fun with this one. I will say, though, it was a big of a challenge to position two (relatively) realistically proportioned dogs in these specific poses. Their legs don't bend the same way as people's legs do, after all!

That's all for now, team. 'Til next time!
