Can you explain how you calculated the odds of each result? I get different results. For example, you give the odds of getting exactly 1 cherry in the original game as 168/512, but I think it's 217/512. Likewise, you give the odds of getting exactly 1 cherry in SMB2 as 56/512, but I think it's 147/512.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this as well. And what I think is going on is the “One Cherry” refers to the odds of getting a cherry in the first slot. Not getting a single cherry in any slot. He mentions “even if you only get a single cherry in the first slot” which seems to imply that if you get a single cherry in slots 2 or 3, you don’t get the bonus, so those odds join the “fail” chance.

What Chris said, you have to get the cherries in the first slot(s) only. A veggie-cherry-cherry combo will still get you nothing.
