This is follow up to the previous post I made, you should go read that first if you haven't.

First, I want to say thank you again so much for the support. I have fun making these videos, but I don't think I'd have quite the motivation to release one a month if I weren't getting something in return for it.

That being said, I want to talk about something that I really don't like talking about, but needs to be done: advertisements.

When I started the channel, I decided to not run ads ever. I don't like ads, and I know a lot of people also don't like ads, so why bother wasting people's time if the return is going to be low? I think it was the right call since it lowered the barrier of entry to my channel for new viewers; they get straight to the video quicker.

But now things are changing, and suddenly placing ads on my videos might make a significant return. Like I said before, I have two videos over 100k views, and I have a feeling the next video will be another big one. I'd like to take advantage of this, but I also want to balance it with the pleasure of the no-ad viewing experience.

So I was thinking that I may enable ads on videos after they have been live on YouTube for a specific amount of time, say, a month. So if you are an early watcher like a subscriber, you'll miss out on the ads. I haven't made any solid plans yet, but I have already been accepted to the YouTube Partner Program so all I have to do is click a button to turn them on. I'd like some feedback on whether this is a good move or not. This change probably won't happen within the next month or two, since I'd have to remake my channel trailer which mentions ad-free viewing (that video needs updating anyway). It also wouldn't be permanent, so if I change my mind I can just disable them right away.

So yeah. You can give me your opinion here or on the Discord server on #patrons if you are there (discord.me/rgmechex).

Thank you again!

What about only disabling ads for early-access, and enabling ads once the video is up publicly? That seems like a good compromise - If people don't want to see ads, they could sign up to be a Patron :D

Hm, that is also an idea I didn't think about. Thank you for the suggestion!

You provide high quality content at an affordable price (free). By all means, throw on the ads.

I second the turn them on when they go live or after 4 hours? You have some real high qualty videos and It would be a shame to not get some resiual income from them.

I became a patron just now after watching the existing content courtesy of Youtube recommendations. I third enabling them for now if it will enable more quality content like you've already done. If the Patreon becomes self-sustaining you can always put it back. You could probably even call it an extra incentive for that early access tier too - only monetize after the video goes public.

Oops, beaten to the punch on that suggestion. Didn't see it before posting!
