Hey everyone,

Hope you're all doing well. I wanted to take some time to update you all on some of the projects coming next to the channel. In my effort to make more videos more often, I've scheduled quite a few things to film over the next few months ranging from documentaries to weird, more personality focused ideas that I'm pretty excited about. Let's get to it!

The Worst Matchups In Fighting Games

I put out a tweet a few weeks ago asking folks what they thought were some of the worst matchups in fighting games and got some really interesting responses.  Obviously a list like this is going to have some bias, but there were so many interesting suggestions that I decided to make a video out of it. We're gonna be focusing on just a few of them ranging from games like SFIV to KOF '95, but I'm hoping this does well enough to make a small series out of. Aiming for this first one to be around 8 - 10 minutes and should be out next week barring any issues!

FFXIV: The FGC Retirement Home

There's always been a running joke in the scene that FFXIV was the "FGC retirement home" and after playing an absurd amount of it recently, I think I understand why. This video is going to examine how FFXIV earned that moniker, as well as try to show why so many people in the FGC love playing this game. This one is still in a bit of planning, but I hope to have it out by the end of August.

Tough Love Arena Documentary

Honestly I haven't played many fighting games during the pandemic era. The lack of events and most titles having subpar netcode just turned me off from picking up a controller. But I did play a bunch of Tough Love Arena, the browser-based fighting game that you can play basically anywhere. With rollback netcode and an aesthetic that brought me back to that computer lab in high school, I really enjoyed my time with TLA. I'm going to be sitting down with creators Paul Weeks and Amy Xu to learn more about how this game together and should have that out for everyone next month!

Hitbox: The Controller & Company That Changed Fighting Games

I'm super excited for this video as I've been VERY curious about the Hitbox for years. If you don't know what it is, the Hitbox is a fighting game controller that replaces the traditional joystick with buttons for directional movement. If you've never seen it before, it seems a little weird but in practice it really changes the game as it allows for faster and cleaner inputs. I'm headed out to Vegas in September to visit the Hitbox office and learn the story behind the company and its products and examine the full effect they've had on fighting games. Look for that in October/November.

Maximilian_Dood & Yo Videogames Documentary

I've had the pleasure of speaking to and working with Max on a few projects like my Killer Instinct docs and his Twitch Rivals events that it just made sense that I should do something more focused on his work and impact on the genre.  I'll be talking to him as well as the other members of Yo Videogames in September for this and look to have this out in November/December-ish time.

And even more videos in planning for later this year/early 2022, including:

  • MBON: The Gundam Fighting Game You Need to Play
  • Get In The Ring: The History of CEO
  • Skullgirls Documentary
  • Smaller, personality focused editorials.

So yeah. A LOT of stuff coming in the next few months. Most of these will be in 4k too as thanks to your support I was able to buy some new gear, including the small but powerful FX3. I'm doing a complete overhaul on my gear to make my whole setup lean and mean and once everything is in and tested, I'm going to do that gear video I mentioned all those months ago.

Outside of videos, I'm looking to do a whole brand refresh of the channel including a new logo. We're two years old now (time flies) and I think it's time for a new look! Hoping to have that put together soon so I can get things like a shirt and other merch for the channel too so look forward to that in the coming months. As always, let me know what you think about all this in the comments or on our discord. Thanks for reading!
