OK, so I have been thinking about the news that we covered last week regarding both Patreon and Gumroad updating their NSFW policies.

I was not upset at first, and I wasn't worried either. But now I have had some time to think it over a little bit. I was going to take a wait and see approach, but I think that is a terrible idea the more that I think about this. I had sort of forgotten what happened with DeviantArt in January. It's not that I had really forgotten, but it wasn't at the forefront of my thinking since I had decided that I didn't care.

Then I thought, "Well what happens if I log into Patreon one day to find that I am perma-banned?" With almost no way to contact any of you!  O_O

So, I think it would be incredibly unwise of me to just calmly wait for Patreon to take my livelihood from me.

After all, they would not have changed the policies how they did if they didn't plan to use them. They are not going to just change them and then do nothing. It might take weeks, months, or even years, but they will start banning people.

How can I say that so confidently? Because that is what has happened with every other site that has ever done this!

Period!

They have also done this in a very sneaky way, which makes me mistrust them even more. They didn't just announce that they were banning adult content, like Gumroad. No, they have sort of done that before and received massive backlash, just like Onlyfans did when they tried it.

No, instead of announcing that they were banning adult content, they had a "meeting" with content creators. A "meeting" that I was invited to by the way, but I declined to attend because I did not believe that they actually wanted my input. And after they received feedback from "adult content creators" at this "meeting", they updated their community guidelines.

In just a few weeks! :D

So efficient and helpful of them!

I find this incredibly disingenuous of Patreon.

Yes, they did update a bunch of stuff on their guidelines. It wasn't just massive changes regarding adult content. However, all acts of sexual interaction being no longer permitted is a huge change. You can't even show bodily fluids or uncovered genitalia anymore. There used to be an exception for comics and artwork, but even those have to follow all of the other guidelines now.

And they just announce this as an update to their community guidelines to "clarify the wording regarding certain content".

Right...

It's very clear to me that Patreon is going to start banning such content, and just didn't want the massive backlash and loss of income that is going to come along with it.

Heed my words! Wait and see how this plays out. They are going to quietly start banning adult creators at some point, and eventually it will be put together what they are doing and when it started - which was with this stealth modification of the community guidelines.

Well, I am not waiting for them to remove my source of income!

I have to find a new home.

I just have to figure out where...

It does, but what do they post on Patreon to let people know that new content is avaialble?
