Anyone besides me constantly refreshing to see if it's processed yet? No? Just me?

I think OSP (Overly Sarcastic Productions) mentioned some of the stuff about the dictionary in the back and it was...interesting. but yeah, I don't think it's plot is important, but the world-building and dark threats.

It’s more about the setting the characters. I think you’re right about that. Also it’s okay I didn’t like Winston either

Odd question but what do you think the interrogators do if one or more of the lights broke or went out during the torture and brainwashing? If it’s answered in the show I apologize I’m not a fan of Star Trek.

Gotta say, I really liked your take on the book. Very well done, hits both major and minor points, and I like how you sidestepped the real world implications. Great job! The whole dystopian future thing was first done (to my knowledge) in Zamyatin's "We," and was pretty decent there. It was, however, a bit simplified and, as the concept spread from Russia to other authors around the globe, it got much better and more developed and nuanced. I think Orwell in particular perfected much of the themes, which is why he gets held in high esteem for this genre. One thing that is very common among all these dystopian future stories is the setting/plot/world matter very little beyond the set up. Because the story does not have a hero saving the day, only regular people showing us how f*cked and unfixable the world is, we the reader don't need to know more beyond what the characters know and accept. So you hit that right on the head. And I have yet to read a dystopian future story that has a truly likeable main character (unless the story ends with the character changing the world, but then it isn't a dystopian story), so that's another running theme. Also, favorite cheese is maple wood smoked cheddar (not raw cow's milk).

Alternative History Hub did a video on 1984's fictional history and just based on that video you can tell how well formed the world is.

I'm one of the people who haven't read this book, but would probably say I had if asked. I've only seen the film, and also listened to the newspeak appendix read on audibook about 400 times. And read through the excerpts of Goldsteins book in it, just to get an idea of the setting and ideology of the world without going into all the drama of Winston Smiths career and love life.
