Before the main post, some more fanart! It seems that Argo the Ratfolk wasn't done with OEA fanart, because we have a cute little Ulfina to round out the set. That said, on to the post.

Ah, February. I had such ambitions for February. T-T I was going to wrap up OEA and get out a TLS update and take care of other things too. Instead I've dealt with some unfortunate stuff and only managed to partially finish the others. Updates on things.

TLS: I am inching closer to finishing the world-wide updates. It's like killing a boss with chip damage. Here's the thing: I've spent a fair amount of time on content that isn't necessary for the minimum viable update. So whenever the necessary changes are finished, the update will already be somewhat rounded out. The question is whether to do harem quests this update or the next one.

OEA: Progress is going fine overall, aside from the achievements roadblock. Valve has been a little more difficult than expected, but there are only two more hoops to jump through. But the delay actually doesn't matter this time: they announced a special JRPG sale for March that I think it would be unwise to release during. Right now I'm thinking of a mid-April release, which should hopefully prevent things from being stressful.

So that's the situation. TLS update soonish. OEA update laterish. Hopefully something else in between.

Will the harem quests be needed in order for Simon to regain his reflection ability for the next update?

JJS

You said that you spent a lot of time doing stuff that isn't necessary for the update but you got a lot of it done. So how much more difficult would it be to complete the other necessary stuff? Because you made it sound like TLS will be ready soon.

Just as a personal preference, I'd rather have some harem quests in the coming update even if they take a bit longer to implement, unless you just want to push out a functional update and do bug squashing before implementing those quests.

JJS

Good point, it might be easier to push out the functional update before doing the harem quests cause those quests would have to be easier in comparison to all the open world content you've been working on.

Too many other variables are involved to say for sure, but I intend to change that variable to make them accessible this update.

if the harem quest are the longest once wont it be better to give them their own update?

sierralee

The harem quests are like those for Aka, Hilstara, and Iris. Each is meant to highlight the character and include some unique content, but I wouldn't call them the longest. Once I have the open world foundation in place, I intend to include several harem quests in each update.

We've got another Bugs Thread report of the Ledger causing mayhem in Ch 3, FYI. Since Trin's conditional climb in copying capacity during the Trade Negotiations is based on the Temp1 variable, which is set to Trin's RP at the start of the Governing Yhilin III, the value will be overwritten to 0 if someone opens the Ledger between those two events. The fix is already in for 0.60 by virtue of the Ledger bug's previous incarnation.

The way i understood it, is that the (original at least) plan was for *all* the girls to have a personal quest, even if some overlap right? Even discounting the few of the girls who've already had quests, that still sounds like a positive fuckton of content and development. Perhaps splitting it 1/4 or 1/3 of the personal quests for this update and the rest for a latter update could work? Give the open world exploration a bit of flavor, without overworking yourself or bloating the update, y'know? There is also the fact that these quests appear to be a central pillar in Simon's recovery so letting those who play 0.60 skip those quests entirely for now, might take away from the gravitas of the situation. It's going to be a bit weird if Simon stands up and says "cool, I'm fine now" after 10 minutes of gameplay after what happened to him, haha. I suspect seeing a few of those quests in 0.60 would really help the narrative, but I'm shooting in the dark here. Looking forward to it, either way

There may be others of these, but hopefully they all have the same source.

Yup, quests for everyone except those who join late as a result of a quest focused on them. The plan is to split all these quests into multiple updates, which I hope will work well to keep up momentum throughout this year. I don't think anyone will be able to cure Simon that fast, but we'll see how it pans out in the finished update.
