I had a blast creating this update, but I'm gripped by last second worries that people won't enjoy it as much as I did. Maybe/hopefully it's just fatigue. Most TLS updates are a smorgasbord of content, from dialogue to plot to sex scenes, whereas this release is like one massive steak. The meat is cooked just the way I like it, but I know it won't satisfy every palate.

RTP: Nuuu, no more progress bars. T-T

TLS 0.58.0

 - New section of the story

 - No new art. There is art ready, but I won't have time to include it until the .1 release or so.

This update contains a large chunk of my work over the past month, but far from all of it. It's got the mildly different sex scene I mentioned but not the more unusual one. I have various maps, dialogue, and other events for all the other characters in their scattered locations. The next release will contain the conclusion of the war with all of that.

I don't know how big this will seem, so to try to justify the time spent, look at what it includes:

  • 27 new maps
  • 59 new enemies, 96 new troops
  • 60 new skills, 17 of them player skills
  • 48 new items/equipment

It's hard to guess how much gameplay time this will take, especially considering restarts are likely during this section. I hope it will give you at least an hour of fun.

Balance Specific Notes

In an ideal world, I'd let this sit for a week and then replay when it's no longer fresh in my mind to try to smooth things out, but that's not really compatible with the release schedule. Regardless, I can never truly have the experience of playing blind, so I'll be looking to feedback to improve things overall. I put in a variety of anti-frustration mechanics that I didn't really use when testing, so while I worry things might be too easy now, I'm more curious if people will break the intended methods in ways I never intended.

Most challenges are designed to have several solutions, some earlier and some later, some cheap and some expensive. If you find a strategy that you can use to blow through an unusually large number of them, please let me know. Seems almost certain that there will be a combination that I didn't think about in my focus on the intended puzzle solutions.

There is a puzzle that I tested multiple times, so I'm confident it's possible if challenging... but heaven help us all if there's an alternate solution that I failed to consider, because the code can only check for one final position.

Anyway... this was fun to create but I overextended myself. It's a relief to be on the other side. There better not be anything horribly wrong. >_<
